Go on this trip if you want to learn a little about a less-visited part of Tuscany. I came back knowing a little about the history and culture of the people of this area--including educational challenges in the local high school, local industries, community values and concerns, and, of course, having eaten lots of great local food! As usual with Road Scholar, Erika Cennini, our travel group leader, was fantastic!

Outstanding and delightful program! Erika is an excellent leader. She is compassionate and well-informed. September weather was warm during the day with occasional rain showers. Be prepared to walk up wandering stairways thru medieval towns.

Linda from Chapel Hill, NC number of programs: 13 Date attended: 10/21/14-10/30/14 This was our first trip to Tuscany and it was wonderful. Staying at the one hotel was great and added a local flavor to the trip. We had wonderful helpful guides in Erika, Valerie and most knowledgeable Mario. We had wonderful weather to enjoy the beauty of this area. We enjoyed a variety of Italian foods in many restaurants. Great trip- we recommend it!

My first experience out of the country and a fabulous one! Staying in one villa in Tuscany for nine days was relaxing and one of the biggest draws to my selection. I am anxious to return to the Hidden Villages of Tuscany!

Great staff; Erika/Christina/Andrea coordinated an excellent program. We met passionate local people who joyfully explained their culture (linen factory owner, olive oil producer, farmer, historian, antique restorer and teacher, the mayor of Anghiari, Franciscan Padre and Prof. Carniani's love for Piero della Francesca!). Sunday lunch with a local family and the final dinner with Tuscan folk music were highlights. Very few tourists in this area (yes!). Limited shopping. Family run hotel was warm, rooms facing the Theatre bar across the street are noisy. The "arts and craft" session (ie basket weaving!) could be skipped. Small group was great for this trip, liked staying in one place during the tour. You won't go hungry, great food. Staff helped with post tour travel plans. Great experience.

This was a great program! We saw so much art and experienced so much of the local culture I can hardly begin to "unpack" the time in Tuscany. Thank you to the great guides: Erika, Christina and Andrea; the great hotel staff at the Meridiana; the knowledgeable and gifted professor Mario Carniani. Had I thought well in advance, I would have purchased one of his books and asked for his autograph. Alas, I did not but I am impressed that Road Scholar continues to secure such qualified instructors!

I loved this program. The village was gorgeous, the food delicious and the field trips educational and fun, and none longer than 45 minutes away. Because it was a small group (22) we were able to be accommodated in "real" restaurants which were delightful. Nice hotel and lovely staff. Good weather.

This was even my first trip to Europe and it was the best experience in my life to be in precious, sweetest Italy. Everyday was a great new experience and the guides (Erika and Christina) were extremely knowledgeable on all aspects of Italy. The Tuscany area is totally sweet and I learned so much. Thank you for wonderful time! Hattie Smith

An excellent art history trip in an unspoiled area of Tuscany. The cultural opportunities in this trip are many, the food excellent and the towns lovely.

The town of Anghiari (pop 5000)is a beautiful walled medieval town. Our hotel room presented beautiful views of the upper Tiber valley and the medieval town wall. The family that ran the hotel was very helpful and responsive. Our guides and coordinator were excellent, organized, helpful and fun as well. We had never taken a group trip before and really enjoyed the company of our fellow travelers much more than we anticipated. It was a very relaxing trip away from the tourist centers. We went to smaller museums and to some beautiful churchs and enjoyed lunch at a local home and at an olive tree farm and oil mill. I can't say enough about how welcoming the locals are. Even our taxi driver in Florence mentioned the reputation the people of Anghiari have for being friendly. The walking is not far but does involve some steep streets but our group ranged up to age 80 or so and everyone seemed to do alright. The trip was just what we were looking for and we got more that we expected. With all of the meals it seemed a good value. We would highly recommend it.
