This was a tremendous program: Educational, challenging, gorgeous scenery. Machu Picchu seemed an after-thought to the trek, but as I entered, was amazingly beautiful and spiritual. I thoroughly enjoyed this trip (but the trek was tough. Condition!).

Beyond compare! Gorgeous, grueling, gorgeous, grueling. But getting to the top (on day 2) and standing at a summit reaching nearly 13,000' high gave me a sense of personal achievement and joy. The first glimpse of Machu Picchu did the same. Good people, the best guide ever, and a wonderful time.

Peru was a celebration of my 50th birthday and I was lucky enough to have spent it with a group of adventuresome friends. It was truly a trip of a lifetime--Don't wait for "someday!"

Hiking the Inca Trail was an amazing trip. Not only was it magnificent in so many ways the history that we discovered along the way was mind boggling. My only caveat is that although the program description says that it is challenging, I do not think the physical preparation that is required is as accurately described as it could be. There are certain days on the trail that are pretty grueling. Certainly doable, but if I would have understood more clearly what it entailed, I most likely would have been able to be more prepared and would have enjoyed the trip even more than I did. Some of this preparation is not only the exercise prep, but also more meaningful conversations with my doctor about what I was embarking on

This trip is a real adventure. Fascinating. Just make sure you are up to the physical activity requirements.

This is a challenging hike back in time. You will gain an appreciation for the ancient Incan culture and experience the vastness of their effect on the region as well as the vast accomplishments they made in agriculture, astronomy, and engineering. Not only were they master builders and stone workers they were masters in bringing water to everywhere and anywhere and in insuring proper drainage too. The sites you'll see are numerous and really make you appreciate a civilization that covered many thousands of miles over terrain that is as beautiful as it is rugged.

This trip was an experience of a lifetime, partly due to the guides that led us. Road Scholar must have the best reputation amongst guides so that they want to work for them. Can't imagine that this trip could be done any other way than hiking the trail and it's worth getting in shape for! Thought we had missed it by not doing it in our 30's or 40's but age trumps all and we're so glad we waited and that Road Scholar sponsors a program like this!!

An exceptional learning as well as physically challenging experience. One of the finest programs I have done with Road Scholar.

The Inca Trail program is absolutely fantastic. The hiking was perfect with a good amount of exercise. This is the only way to see Machu Picchu and gain a true understanding of the Peruvian history and culture. The hotels were very luxurious and the busses were comfy. The absolute shocker was the out-right talent of the guides. They were so knowledgeable, connected with their topic passionately, and supplied encouragement and support whenever needed. I highly recommend this trip.

Totally enjoyable program. Training at as high an altitude as locally possible over the summer definitely added to the experience. Our main problem involved getting $$. Bring an ATM card and PIN with you. Carry $OLs along on hike to get into bathrooms. Barganing at local stores is only possible with local currency. Brand new currency is the only acceptable American $.

The RS trip to Machu Picchu was a trip of a lifetime. I will always remember it as something I was able to accomplish with wonderful guides, great accommodations and interesting people. The pre-trip training certainly helped make this fun more enjoyable.

Our Inca Trail hike was an intense journey of beauty, nature, history, culture, spirituality and challenge that we shared with fourteen compatible trekkers. Our excellent guides, Paco and Vladimir, were knowledgeable, personable, organized and professional. Their pride in, and love of, their culture was evident in the briefings they gave along the trail; all this deepened our appreciation of Incan history and culture. The porters were awe-inspiring, and it was amazing to see them prepare delicious meals time after time from a kitchen constantly on the move! I'll never forget the sound of water rolling through the Urubamba and its tributaries. The Inca Trail hike was worth every step!

Hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu fulfilled a lifelong dream of mine. The Road Scholar program was excellent in every way - our guides, lecturers, porters, accommodations (even the tents), Peruvian cuisine, program participants, stunning Andean sights - cloud forest, mountains, villages and towns, and the crowning glory, Machu Picchu itself!

I thoroughly enjoyed visiting Peru and hiking to Machu Picchu . . . it was quite an adventure! I overcame my fears and concerns about the high altitude, food & water restrictions, and sleeping in a tent. I'm so glad I took this trip!
