I found the program enormously interesting, informative, challenging, and stimulating. The speakers and participants are equally fascinating people; I learned much from all of them. The setting of Chautauqua Institution is a marvelous, unique little world, and the Athenaeum Hotel is old fashioned elegance and comfort managed by a friendly, top-drawer staff. I would love to return.

This was a fantastic program that provided in depth information. A beautiful venue and very engaged participants. Thank you for providing such high quality presenters!

We have attended this foreign affairs program four times over the past decade. There has been very little duplication of content from one time to the next. The world's hot spots change from year to year, and these programs have been responsive and timely.

The Foreign Service program at Chautauqua was an experience of a lifetime with challenging speakers, historic surroundings, fabulous food, and stimulating participants.

This is a wonderful way to get an informed "insider's" view of so many of the issues facing our world today! So many more things make some sense to me now that did not before I attended this program.

I was so impressed with the presenters. Their knowledge of world affairs is extensive. They were at ease talking about many areas of the world, not just the ones they worked in. This was such a stimulating week that I hope to take another similar course in the future

Great Program. The presenters were knowledgeable and interesting. The food was wonderful too good I gained weight. Being at the Atheneum Hotel and the Chatauqua was a great experience.

Fascinating lectures by retired experts from the Foreign Service. Comfortable rooms, delicious food, wonderful people. What more could anyone want? Loved every minute of it. Jana Schuelke (one of the 6 Canadians.)

This was an excellent program in a beautiful setting. It was my first opportunity to be in the company of members of our Foreign Service community. I look forward to being able to participate in another program like this.

The Foreign Policy program was excellent and anybody who has any interest in what is going on overseas will find it educational and meaningful.

Gwendolyn from Fairview Heights, IL Number of programs attended: 5

I was awed by the quality, intelligence, and knowledge of the former Foreign Service officers who presented and led discussions. I was equally impressed by their spouses, who were likewise very knowledgeable and who, in several instances, gave very interesting descriptions of the personal/family side of the Foreign Service. The Athenaeum Hotel was lovely, the setting was spectacular, and the meals were terrific.

This is an excellent program for people who want an excellent introduction to foreign policy in areas that are currently in the news and affecting the United States.

Road Scholar would benefit from greater outreach to the African American community. Diversity is essential for your program.

Louise from State College, PA Number of programs attended: 10

I attended a fall program in Chautauqua on foreign policy. The lecturers were Foreign Service retirees, including two former ambassadors. The lectures were excellent and I enjoyed the accommodations and meals in the historic Athenaeum Hotel set right beside the lake. Really highly recommend this program.

Michael from Village Of Lakewood, IL Number of programs attended: 3

I found the Chautauqua facilities, staff, service and food excellent. Our presenters were good but I found last falls meeting more educational. A couple of these retired officers were advocating positions I do not agree with so this years program was more political and less informative.

While carefully structured, I found the information given by your speakers to be very rudimentary, more apt for a freshman college course lacking depth and insight. Most of the speakers tried their best but would not reveal what is happening 'behind the curtain' and offered only the obvious which could easily be gleaned from the newspapers. One of the woman speakers was just plain dreadful. She seemed to be flustered, confused and distracted. She also did not answer several of the question posed to her by my group. If I may suggest, if you want to have a real and truly meaningful course perhaps a few changes are in order...perhaps, you can have one of your speakers talk about a particular problem they faced and how they solved it, what other government agencies were involved and diagram for us the progression in the thought process leading to the ultimate solution they agreed upon. You might also consider having any of the groups broken down into 3 parts and have your experts pose a problem to them with appropriate background information and have the groups work on a solution and then perhaps be judged by the experts. The Road Scholar staff was great as usual. As to the location it was wonderful however I think the hotel would be best served with a fresh coat of paint. The food was excellent, better than I had expected. I total, it was ok for my taste and knowledge base of the subject.

A great Roads Scholar program in a beautiful area. Presenters were well prepared and up to date, accommodations comfortable and clean. An informative and fun week with delightful peoplel

This is a very good program at a very reasonable price. The presenters were highly knowledgable and provided interesting lectures. Participants asked good questions, which clarified matters. Presenters joined participants during meals making informal discussions possible. While the hotel was nice and the staff accommodating, the meals varied in the quality of preparation. However, quantities were more than adequate. Another drawback is that the program ,which was located more than 60 miles away from Buffalo, is somewhat out of the way.

It would be difficult not to enjoy this Road Scholar program, especially if one wants enlightenment on what U.S. ambassadors do during their world-wide assignments. Makes us realize that no matter where in the world we travel, we are all ambassadors of the USA and should be respectful of those who share our planet.

Five intelligent, educated, & experienced retired ambassadors, who rank with 4 star generals, came to a grand old resort hotel on a beautiful lake to eat delicious meals with us, chat casually, and give brilliant lectures on US foreign policy & diplomacy. WOW!

The Foreign Policy programs at Chautauqua are excellent and in a beautiful location. I came away with resolve to ask our news media to write and talk more about the positive world involvements and less about the negative, nasty and sensational. For myself, I will not be so quick to judge countries' actions and decisions as reported on the news, as I have been made more aware of the complexities of Foreign Affairs.
