Judy from Terre Haute, In Number of programs attended: 13 Date attended 09/20/15- 09/20/15 I enjoyed the program and learned a wealth of information about the 3 Virginia famous presidents. This program will not disappoint anyone who has always wanted to visit these presidential homes and learn about Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and James Monroe. It was wonderful, the lectures were inspiring and thought provoking and the organization of the program was superb.

Any one who is interested in history or our country would enjoy this program. The cornerstone of me was the the quality of lecture presentations. Not only are the presenters knowledgeable but, entertaining as well. Ihe musical entertainment provided during two evenings was a delightful way to end the busy day. The content of material spans multiple dimensions of our country's past.

First, we were blessed with a great group of people - everyone got together on time and everyone was friendly AND interesting! We had a wonderful week of education by two brilliant scholars, entertainment by wonderful musicians/comedians, great food, comfy lodging and the spectacular Blue Ridge Mountains. It does not get better! Oh wait - we had the most extraordinary tour coordinator - Jeanetta Benedict. She had the tour running like a Swiss watch. I would highly recommend this tour, it's informative, relaxing and a lot of fun.

Charles from Huntington, WV Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 12/07/14 - 12/12/14
What a wonderful week this was! Eileen Wells is an excellent group leader, friendly, helpful and fun to be with. Jim Wootton and Beth Taylor are inspired and inspiring instructors. If the program had been ONLY their lectures, we would have considered it time and money well-spent. We loved our time with them. And ending the program with a visit from President James Monroe (as channeled by the remarkable Dennis Bigelow) was brilliant. We left smiling and wishing the week weren't over. We happily recommend this great program.

The instructors were excellent and Eileen was a great leader. The hotel is old but adequate. Without a car it is located quite a distance from other points of interest.

Karen from Big Canoe, GA Number of programs attended: 9
Date attended: 10/19/14 - 10/24/14
I learned a lot about Jefferson's, Madison's and Monroe's lives that I never learned in a history book.

Lorraine from Delmar, NY Number of programs attended: 9
Date attended: 10/19/14 - 10/24/14
Filled in the blanks, added considerable interesting details, featured the historical figures as real people with joys and pains just like the rest of us, offered visits to the actual places involved, and made history relevant and real.

PALMA from Garden City, NY Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 09/07/14 - 09/12/14
The program was fun, interesting & very well coordinated. My first RS vacation and have already booked my second. Perfectly done ~

Laurel from Morton Grove, IL Number of programs attended: 6

For a short period of time, a very thorough study of the 3 presidents. They amazed me with their intellect, courage, and foresight, but with all that, could not solve the slavery issue. They could have been freed & then given a wage.

Carole from Bloomfield, MI Number of programs attended: 48
Date attended: 09/07/14 - 09/12/14
We have attended many Elderhostel/Road Scholar programs since 1993 and believe the educational content of this program is one of the best. If you love early American history plan to attend this one.

Ellen from Beaufort, SC Number of programs attended: 1

This was our first Road Scholar trip and it was wonderful. I learned so much about our Founding Fathers. The lectures were excellent. The people in the group were terrific as was our group leader. The only downside were the dinners which were terrible. Road Scholar desperately needs to read and act on all of the comments regarding the awful food and find themselves a new caterer in Charlottesville.

Road Scholar's response:
Thank you so much for your feedback. Recently, a member of the program management team met with the catering service provider to discuss and share the concerns you, and other participants have expressed about the meals. We are actively working to improve the food quality on this program and appreciate your helpful input.

My first Road Scholar trip. Amazing adventure, outstanding lectures, wonderful coordinator and bus driver. Need a different caterer. Food was horrible and limited to only one entree - very small portions. Lucked out with lovely "suite" room. Would like a hotel with a bar so could meet fellow travelers to discuss day. Definitely needed a car to get decent meals. No tours planned for free day - think they could offer "optional" tours. Great group of people on the tour - so well traveled.

Francis from Beaufort, SC Number of programs attended: 1

This was an amazing adventure! Outstanding lectures, field trips and a wonderful group leader. This was our first RoadScholar program and we are definitely hooked. Be forewarned, plan to eat out; the program provided food is horrible, unless you would like to experience what prison food must be like.

Stephanie from Winter Garden, FL Number of programs attended: 23
Date attended: 04/06/14 - 04/11/14
The accommodations were comfortable. The lecturers were outstanding. The evening meals were embarrassing. Flavor good, quantity insufficient. (why isn't a change made? Most of the reviews also comment on the sparsity offered.) The plantation tours well organized and memorable. Over all, another great learning experience.

F. Garfield from Calgary, AB Number of programs attended: 19
Date attended: 05/18/14 - 05/23/14
This was an excellent program with outstanding lecturers and very satisfying field trips. The participants were very friendly with a rich background of experience that they shared willingly. I highly recommend it to others. Garfield Anderson, Calgary, Canada.

Maureen from Vancouver, WA Number of programs attended: 47

The packet information stated I had to reserve a taxi from the Amtrak Station. Instead I called the English Inn for a free Shuttle to pick me up. Great accommodations. I stayed on top floor with a view of the community gardens. I enjoyed the lovely English style courtyard where you needed the room key to enter. I plan to stay at the English Inn when I visit Charlottesville again. The dinners were dreadful! Even on the first night where dinner is usually special. I would have liked a bit more time at each plantation - perhaps an extra half hour - to be able to wander around the grounds and visit the cemetery.

Amy from New York, NY Number of programs attended: 3
Date attended: 03/16/14 - 03/21/14
I thought the educational content of this trip was quite good and met my expectations. I thought the accommodations were fair-to-poor and the food just dreadful. AE

Knowledge of instructors was excellent. Presentations were enjoyable. Should have received refunds for meals. Horrid caterer. Ate most meals elsewhere. Also, the program was very hectic with little down time. 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM was a little much.

Sue from Oberlin, OH Number of programs attended: 4

It was great! It really brought the three presidents and their time alive for me. The instructors were not only expert but engaging, and I really enjoyed my fellow participants.

This adventure took you back in time and gave one a better understanding of what our founding fathers accomplished. These were men of vision. It was like stepping through a time portal and viewing life as it was back then. Beautiful countryside views.

Jack from Murrieta, CA Number of programs attended: 3

I am a fan of our early American history and member of two American lineage societies. Our program presentors were knowledgeable in their field great communicators and easy for program participants to approach with questions.

This program (along with Williamsburg and Boston) if it would include Mount Vernon is a must to understand the derivation of those who revolted and the contradictions they lived with and pragmatically covered over in order to create the union "concieved in liberty, etc." and to the proposition that all [white] males are created equal. They were of and not above their time. Logically it should have been two unions and the horrors of 1861-65 would very well have been avoided. Don't sweep issues under the rug.
