ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

From Freda and Irving, Peabody, MA. This has been our 8th year in Lynette's program and our enjoyment continued at its high. Even having heard Peter, Andrea and Paul so many times, it's always a fresh exposure. Of Course , Tanglewood has to be the highlight and there's nothing like being the only audience at the orchestra rehearsal. Specifics: we love the hotel, the breakfast buffets in the dining room, Pat's Pub on our free night, Barrington Theater's play about Alan Turing, the unbelievable "Circa S" dance program at Jacob's Pillow, and of course, our reurnion with our long time friends Joe and Charlotte. The pagers we were given gave us intimate contact with program leaders and the docent at the Clark museum. Lynette has been a wonderful leader and we hope we will be with her programs in the future.

Definitely one of my all time favorite Road Scholar/Elderhostel programs! We had superior leadership by Lynette coupled with a top notch offering of Music, Theater and Dance with excellent seats at each event! Visiting the new Clark addition was a treat, too. There were excellent preparation lectures as well as fascinating follow up discussions. Don't miss this first class experience in a beautiful part of our country! I hope to return next year for another week.

We enjoyed this program enormously, but we were very lucky. Our group numbered 24 - some other groups in this program have well over 40. Such a large number of participants would have had a very negative impact on the experience. The hotel in Pittsfield is very comfortable, has a nice indoor pool and the breakfasts are terrific! Unfortunately, it is in an urban location with no gardens or outdoor areas (except for a shadeless, bare concrete patio on the second floor)which would have been lovely to have between lectures and during free time. Must recommend Shakespeare and Company for your free evening or before or after the program. Their Midsummer Night's Dream -set in New Orleans- was hilarious!

Exciting and insightful discussions about Alan Turing--the father of computer science--, a totally unbelievable performance by the Circa dance(?) group from Australia at Jacob's Pillow, close-up attendance at a closed rehearsal of the Boston Symphony one morning, and a masterful concert performance by them the following evening after listening in on an interview of Manny Ax by Martin Bookspan, all carefully planned by a great program director and accompanied by a bright and friendly group--who could ask for more??

Naomi from Brighton, MA Number of programs attended: 18
Date attended: 07/28/14 - 08/02/14
Program is very intensive but very good - lectures and talks provide excellent background to the programs, and then allow for discussion afterwards. But there is not a lot of free time. While the program is headquartered in Pittsfield, it might benefit from a listing of art galleries and antique shops in the town and within easy driving distance, in addition to the restaurants now listed.

This week in the Berkshires was incredible. This was our 5th trip and the best so far..From the group leader to the individual speakers to the performances: everything was too marvelous for words. We especially enjoyed sharing these experiences with our fellow Road Scholars. Individually, the people were most knowledgeable, witty, and fun to be with. Wish we could repeat this week every few months.

Joan from Rockville, MD Number of programs attended: 6

This Road Scholar trip to the Berkshires was outstanding as were the participants with us. We had a terrific group leader, who had others working with her. She anticipated needs and was very entertaining and thoughtful. The seats to the programs were very good, as were the follow-up lecturers/speakers who engaged us easily in commenting on the performances we had seen. My best "treat" was the BSO rehearsal where we were "up front and personal"; we would hear the conductor conferring with the Concert Master...what could be better. This is best way to enjoy a week at the Berkshires. Joan

This is a great introduction to the Berkshires. Gives an overview of much of what is there and whets your appetite to go back and visit in more depth. In addition, the area is absolutely gorgeous!

Our recent trip to the Berkshires with a Road Scholar program, including 2 visits to Tanglewood to experience the Boston Symphony in its summer home was most rewarding. The program was led by an extremely talented and organized coordinator and the teaching staff added immensely to the overall delight of the trip. Thank you, Road Scholar.

Bettymerle from Bethesda, MD Number of programs attended: 18
Date attended: 07/15/13 - 07/20/13
Program delivers on its 3 big performances: drama, dance, and music. Along with the BSO concert at Tanglewood, enjoyed immensely the close-up viewing/listening to the rehearsal and the Prelude Concert at Ozawa. Jacob's Pillow is a wonderful experience with young, vital dancers in interesting and very enjoyable performance of creative modern dance.
