ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.

Despite some return flight problems, this was an excellent program, a sentiment seemingly shared by all in our group. We expected Machu Picchu/Sacred Valley and Easter Island to be great but Iguazu Falls, a trip to a village at 14,000 feet, and others were the icing on the cake!

I took this trip in early June, 2015 and loved the sights, field trips, guides, lectures, food, and accommodations. It is hard for me to decide what was the best part. This was the fulfillment of a life long dream. I had a slight problem with altitude in Peru, but it passed in a day. Some members of our group had problems making it up and down the high steps of Machu Picchu, but came out all right. At the very end of the trip we were delayed getting off Easter Island by crosswinds that prevented the airplane from landing. But these things were nothing in comparison to the wonderful memories, pictures, and knowledge that we gained, and friendships too! I am so glad I went.

We took this tour in May 2015 and it exceeded our expectations! The facilitator and guides were terrific -- taking care of all of the logistics and helping us get the most out of every site we visited. The pace was just right, as was the balance between programmed and free time. Meals were good to fantastic (Buenos Aires was a culinary delight!); accommodations for the most part better than what we would have booked on our own. The climbing and walking were strenuous at times but well worth it to see breathtaking Incan remains, stunning waterfalls, and those mysterious (though less so now that we learned so much about them) statues on Easter Island. If you are interested in seeing the sights on this itinerary, we recommend this trip without reservation.

This was the 8th Road Scholar program my husband and I have attended and the best of them all. We appreciated the lectures - with the exception of one lecturer - which provided us with information about what we were doing. Oscar Velasco, our group leader was terrific. It is so nice to have Road Scholar plan our transportation, program, and meals so we can truly enjoy our adventure. We have and will continue to recommend Road Scholar programs to others.

We just returned from our South American adventure with Road Scholar, and highly recommend this trip for those who have Machu Picchu, Iguaso Falls and Easter Island on your bucket list. But be prepared - this trip is for people who are fit, can walk on uneven surfaces and have the stamina to travel all over the place. Being with the Road Scholar people will exceed all your expectations!

This was a terrific tour and well worth the money. Great guides, well-organized, iconic places to see, Machu Picchu, Iguazu Falls, Buenos Aires, and Easter Island in this short time, substantially shorted my "bucket list." Looking forward to the next one!

This was a fabulous trip that included several outstanding attractions. I would rate it as VERY active, with much climbing up steps, including at high elevations. Incorporate stair-climbing in your regular exercise if you want to enjoy this trip.

This active Road Scholar program checked all the South America sites on my wish list. It was well organized and well led. I look forward to my next Road Scholar trip, the new brouchure just arrived!

I felt that the program covered a lot of different areas and was well worth the expense.

This is an ambitious program that includes two world-famous sites: Machu Picchu and Rapa Nui (Easter Island). Our experiences in and near these two places were the highlights of the trip, and far exceeded my expectations. But a warning: The high altitudes in Peru caused problems for some group members. This trip may require a level of physical fitness beyond what is usual for a Road Scholar program described as "active".
