Our leaders, John and Ann Mahan's love of the Island was very evident in wanting to share their knowledge in lectures, slide presentations, and field trips. A great trip!

The Isle Royale trip / adventure is worth your time if you value nature, remoteness, the joy of daily gifts from nature, a sense of the past being in the present. The instructors Ann and John Mahan are excellent and impart their joy and love of the Island in all they do. This Island is a treasure as National Park for wolves and moose research and for personal renewal.

Just returned this afternoon from Isle Royale. What an exciting experience. John and Ann Mahan are the most knowledgeable instructors we have had. Rachelle Bachran is a site coordinator par excellance. Everything went so smoothly it was unbelieveable. And we were blessed with the perfect weather for the entire week. Our lodge accommodations were in the recently remodeled section and were very comfortable. Chef Brett did a super job with the meals every day. The programs and hikes were interesting and challenging. Be sure and bring a walking stick and have good footwear. Also the lemon/eucalyptus insect repellant works well against the black flies. The crossing on the ferry was smooth as silk in both directions. But it is a remote location - cell phones don't work, there is no TV and no public internet. But there are loons and solitude. Those taking the later July trip have a real treat in store.
