Very enjoyable. Luisa (our guide) and Sylvia (our docent) were great. A family meet & greet and dancing extras made it more enjoyable. Recommend adding Casa Mila and Casa Battlo added to tour.

Independent Barcelona -- wonderful program, meaningful experience, excellent tour guides. It was my first Road Scholar adventure and highly recommend this tour to newcomers or those who don't have a great deal of time but want to be enriched and have a wonderful supported and independent experience. Just returned from Independent Art and Architecture of Barcelona and would recommend it highly. There was a good balance of group and independent activity. Especially great for solo travelers!

This program will give you a great feel for the city of Barcelona and its history. The program leaders were very well informed and very approachable. Everyone involved was delightful!

Barcelona is a wonderful city, fully experienced through this tour, from the historical sites, museums, musical events, food, the friendly, amusing people, centrally located hotel, and, last but not least, a group leader and local guides who provided us a total experience. Don't miss Barcelona. It is a special city.

This was a great trip. Barcelona is a beautiful city. It is filled with amazing architecture; it's clean, safe, and walkable. The people were warm and friendly and the food was delicious. Our group leader, Dragana, was organized, attentive and responsive to the needs of everyone in the group. The group dinners (2) and lunch (1) were in very nice restaurants. There is plenty of music entertainment for evening outings. The hotel was conveniently located, with both a bus and a metro stop within the block. Public transportation was easy to use.

Our Barcelona experience exceeded our expectations on every level: Road Scholar personnel, accommodations, food/beverage, seminars, tours, etc. All were wonderful

We thoroughly enjoyed this independent program... Great balance of guided walks, lectures and entrance to several main venues while providing generous time to shape your experience of Barcelona according to your own interests. Our local guides, Sylvia and Oriol were wonderful... We were particularly pleased with the scope of the tours.. From ancient Roman times to the amazing architecture of modern Barcelona, the art and influence of Gaudi, Miro, Picasso and Dali, and everything in between. A very good group of fellow Road Scholars and the support of our group leader made for a very enjoyable experience.

What a fabulous trip! The amount of free time was perfect for me. There is a lot of walking -- I was pleasantly surprised when my iphone tracker had me at11 miles one day -- but what a wonderful walking city Barcelona is! The hotel is in a perfect location and the guides/instructors were just amazing - helpful, informative, and great fun. Be prepared for lots of stairs -- some of the attractions do have elevators, but there are usually many people waiting for them. The RS arrangements were very well done. This was my first RS trip and I expect it will not be my last - especially if there are other independent trips available. Enjoy this fascinating city - I look forward to returning.

The trip was very informative and well planned. I enjoyed learning so much Spanish history and discovering the genius of Gaudi. Because this was an independent tour, there was a lot of opportunity to explore the city and get more exercise than the 2+ miles described in the tour materials.

This was a wonderful experience and my first time to Europe. The highlights for me were Gaudi's La Sagrada Familia. You must also see La Pedrera and make time for shopping in the Gothic quarter as well as Born (near the Picasso museum).

The educational component was a high-point of the trip. It truly was value-added to what I would have done as an independent traveler. I appreciate the planning of the key activities that includes the primary Barcelona icons & history and the background logistical support that keeps everything moving smoothly.

Barcelona is a lovely place with art and architectural delights everywhere and nearby. Our instructor and group leader were very knowledgeable. They made sure we visited all the major sights and were always available to help us plan visits on our own. I enjoyed every minute.

RS did it again! Wonderful trip. Just the right mix of accompanied activities and time to explore on one's own. Guide and coordinator were excellent. Very knowledgeable, and available when needed. Restaurants and hotel excellent for the price. I've become an RS devotee.

Wow! This was our first RS Independent City program, and we just loved it!! In fact, I am now looking at other RS Indepent programs. The city of Barcelona is spectacular! So easy to explore on one's own. The lectures and excursions were excellent, enriching our experience in every way.. AND...we loved having the free time that the program features, and being flexible about meals, both the timing and content. The group activities and meals were great too!

marvin from New Jersey: I enjoyed the October 14-22 Independent Barcelona program 7149. It was intense, well organized and comprehensive The Guide, Lisa Forner and her colleagues, were most knowledgable and answered all questions. Miz Forner was particularly helpful to me on issues I had. Wonderful trip to a remarkable city.

Barcelona is indeed a great city and this program covered a lot of the highlights while also allowing participants substantial time to explore on their own. The Metro is easy to use, the hotel very well located, and our on-site coordinator, Luisa, couldn't have been more helpful--as were the tours and lectures by Sylvia and Andre. Highly recommended to those seeking a fair degree of independence and game for quite a bit of walking.

Barcelona is a great city; folks attending 'independent barcelona' must truly be ready for independence as there are many afternoons and evenings to plan and explore on one's own. this was fine for us, but for those expecting or need more structure, think again. if curious and able, there are a myriad of concerts, museums, and even other nearby cities to explore, which we did by train, all accessible and manageable. great trip!

Marian from Lincoln, CA Number of programs attended: 4

Very organized and informative program about Modernism and Barcelona. The independent portion of the program in the afternoon allows for the traveler to feel like they have some space, yet have the comradery of other travelers.

I had always avoided tours, but this looked atypical and intriguing. Am so glad I decided to give Road Scholar a try. The small group and built in free time made for a most enjoyable experience. That plus the organization, knowledge and warmth of Louisa, our tour guide! Also adding immeasurably to the trip was our resident expert, Sylvia - her lectures and guided tours were both informative and fun. This was a mix of leisure time in a great city, with laughs and learning. I highly recommend it.

The Barcelona Program was my first Road Scholar trip and it was fantastic! I would heartily recommend it to anyone thinking of this program. The guide, Luisa, and instructor, Sylvia, made the history, art and architecture and the people of Barcelona come alive for me.

Independent Barcelona offers amazing visits to art and architectural offerings and a highly educated guide to interesting backfround information. This trip with a smaller group and more time for independent activities provided a perfect balance for an enjoyable trip.

04/04/14 - 04/12/14 The tour was my first trip abroad and my first trip with Road Scholar. Barcelona was beautiful. The weather was fantastic. I learned so much about so many things, history, the arts, politics. It would be hard to pinpoint one thing as the best. Our guide, Lucy was wonderful. The instructors, Silvia and Oriel were well informed and great lecturer, never boring! I am definitely sold on the Road Scholar Independent City tours -- the mix of guided and free time really worked for me.

This program was a comprehensive experience of Barcelona. The amount of time needed to cover sites, museums, plus personal walk-a-around was good. The hotel was in a fabulous location, with easy access to metro and buses, and famous Gaudi buildings. The hotel breakfast was outstanding every day and our room was comfortable and clean. The program content was well-organized, thorough, and well presented. Lectures were well done, interesting and informative. Good pace of activities, too! Enjoyed fellow Road Scholars. We were all well taken care of by our Program Leader - all very professional. Top marks for this program and its staff.

This was my second independent Road Scholar trip and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had visited Barcelona before but this time I learned much more about Catalonia and Catalonian nationalism, Gaudi, Miro and Picasso. It was a great mix of organized lectures and tours and free time to explore on your own. Luisa and Silvia are great leaders. The hotel was clean, comfortable and centrally located. As a solo woman traveller, I felt comfortable, safe an welcomed. The other group members were a treat to meet and to spend time with. I could not have enjoyed myself more.... well, perhaps, a liittle less rain would have been nice!
