EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

This program was most informative, and provided an excellent overview of the architecture of Chicago, as well as the specific contributions of Frank Lloyd Wright. The boat trip on the Chicago River was excellent, and complemented the other portions of the program. Overall, an excellent program.

Lots of walking, lots of delicious calories, and very warm & friendly hosts from the JCC. The city hotel was right along the Chicago River (Wacker at Michigan) with the sounds & excitement of the upscale urban scene. The only reason I signed up was for the Frank Lloyd Wright tours, but I had a wonderful experience learning about the development of the city itself -- the river architectural boat ride & talk were excellent. I never would have found 1/10th of the wonderful things I saw (and ate) if I had gone there on my own... although I may go back now by myself to see more of it. Or maybe I will do a different Road Scholar tour of Chicago... one that includes the museums. This was my first of many Road Scholar programs.

Lifelong students who are interested in learning more about the history of one of America's greatest, most excitingly vibrant cities should consider this magnificent course in architecture. Not only will they learn about the birth of the skyscraper, the artistry and genius behind brilliant men like Frank Lloyd Wright, William Sullivan and others, but they'll gain an appreciation of the history of the City with Big Shoulders. It's fascinating how it rose from the ashes of the Great Fire and re-invented itself for a new generation. The art and architecture of Chicago are illustrations of how this metropolis grew from a fort on a river to become a world center. Those participating in this wonderful program will not only learn more than their brains can hold, they'll become revitalized and challenged to learn more about a city that reflects its diversity and excellence at every glance.

Very good new program. We had been watching for a Chicago program with Frank Lloyd Wright emphasis. Among the best of our 10 Elderhostel/Road Scholar programs so far. Excellent host couple. Excellent special tour guide for seminars and for the walking and bus tour segments covering the wide range of architectural building styles. Vintage hotel location right on the Chicago river. Hotel breakfasts were basic, but the variety of lunch and dinner venues were very good Chicago appropriate. Hope another home tour is added.

Excellent program! Prepare to walk a lot, learn about Chicago's famous architects and architecture, and have some wonderful meals. Any reading you can do before the trip would be helpful in understanding the history of the city and its buildings.
