My husband and I live about 70 miles from Chicago and enjoy it thoroughly when we visit for a day for a special occasion, but we hadn't been to the city in several years. We had never gone to Chicago for a few days, staying overnight in the heart of the city. This was such a treat! The Club Quarters is an excellent place to stay and very centrally located. Our room was clean and inviting and the views were spectacular! The itinerary is well-planned and provides a variety of activities and LOTS of good things to experience. The leaders are well-versed on the city and keep things running smoothly. But of course the main reason people go on a tour like this is to sample and experience the area’s special foods of the past and present that make Chicago one of the premiere places to eat in America. Be aware that you are going to be walking a lot on some of the food tours – maybe a little more than described. This is a city after all and most people walk in the city. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. As you are on a food tour you are going to eat, and sometimes you’re probably going to eat more than you should. Please don’t complain about portions or how you shouldn’t eat that or try this. If you don’t like to eat or you’re watching your weight, then pick another program – any of them in Chicago would be great I’m sure as the city itself is so beautiful. You get most of one day off to do your own thing. The possibilities are endless. The food possibilities too are endless. I really hope Road Scholar will do A Taste of Chicago #2 utilizing some more of the food we didn’t get to try. Wouldn’t that be great?
