A disappointment, if Hawaii in winter can be a disappointment. It was my first Road Scholar trip and I chose it to be in the water, unfortunately the characteristically rough water caused most of the scheduled excursions to be canceled. I was able to enjoy snorkeling near the hotel in Kona, and that was good, but that was not the trip I expected. We did not snorkel at all on Maui. Hotel food was mediocre. I did not once have fresh fish at a hotel. I had dry tasteless Mahi Mahi and Salmon. One should expect lots of fresh fish and fruit on this trip. We spent way too much time getting on and off buses and getting too tour sights. We actually went out one night snorkel to see Manta Rays. I did see one, but it was so rough my arms were sore from hanging on to the board we were supposed to attach ourselves to, and many people were seasick. Next time I want a snorkeling vacation I will choose a hotel at a nice snorkel location and just stay there.

A very relaxed and delightful trip with many high points. It was not as challenging as rated, which meant there was little pressure or physical challenge. You can snorkel as long and hard as you want.
