If you would like to get away to a beautiful Lodge and wonderful surrounding, visit a winery in the woods, meet friendly local people, visit a park and museum that has a big spring this is the program for you. I strongly recommend it to just get away.

Wonderful, inspiring program!!! For me it was almost life-changing. Can't say enough good things about Road Scholar!!! I'm telling all my friends about it.

Cynthia from Casper, WY Number of programs attended: 3
Date attended: 08/23/15 - 08/28/15
I was disappointed in the program, largely due to the substitution of an instructor at the last minute. While the substitute did try to adhere to the focus of the program she had not been given adequate plans and had to "wing it" without a map! I went prepared by having read the suggested books and bringing a board game to share. Both of these subjects were not mentioned. Other than that, however, Trout Lodge is a beautiful setting, the pontoon boat ride was delightful, the room opened onto a patio overlooking the Lake, and the food was more than adequate, the catered dinners being particularly good. Cynthia from Casper, Wy

Road Scholar's response:
Thank you for the feedback Cynthia. We rely on and review every evaluation that we receive from our participants, in order to create the best possible experiences going forward. Each response and suggestion has a direct impact on our programs, and while some last minute changes are unavoidable, we still hope that this trip (and all the others!) brought you lots of joy, peace and laughter!

I agree with Monte. The program differed somewhat from the advertised content. One reason for this may have been due to a last-minute change in instructors. (The substitute did a great job, however.) The facility was beautiful, the accommodations adequate, and the food quite satisfactory. Our group was small; but everyone was fun, friendly, and flexible. So, in general, it was an enjoyable Road Scholar.

This program content was not as advertised, which is: "Looking on the Bright Side." This suggested to me, fun activities, songs, jokes and laughter. However, too much of the program was on the industries of iron-works, granite, geology, and the working of a winery, I enjoyed the fellow participants and there was lots of laughter, but not because of the educational content. The food was above average as well as the accommodations; all presented in a beautiful lake-shore lodge. The boat ride on the lake was one fun thing that is memorable.

Delightful and fun program in a beautiful lodge nestled in the scenic Ozarks

Mardell from Norwalk, IA Number of programs attended: 9
Date attended: 04/19/15 - 04/24/15
Program leaders were top of the line, transforming strangers into a laughing, joyous, relaxed group of friends. The presenters covered a variety of insights on humor, joy and peace with videos, literature, & excellent handout materials to explore at our leisure. The lodge is comfortable; staff friendly & helpful. Meals are tasty and bountiful. Plenty of opportunities to enjoy the lake, nature trails, & the scenic views. The new hearing devices were very helpful even though the rigid ear pieces were uncomfortable for some users. One of our best programs thus far.

This was a fun, activity filled program; different from the usual sightseeing excursions. I called it my grown up summer camp experience. It is a program I would definitely consider again.

Due to small space, only practical advices. Email me with questions if you wish. If you reserve a shuttle, wait at the airport upstairs at departure level, gate 6 - it's not an error in directions. In April mosquito spray was needed for window cracks so the flies won't get in. Library is nice on 3rd floor by TV (if you have time to read). Bring some hangers as there not enough. Bring your own shampoo, lotion, etc - only soap was provided by the daily maid service. There is a gift shop not far from the lodge, the opening hours are not regular. Don't bring food/water/coffee - you will have enough. T-mobile phones work.

Program is held in a beautiful location with interesting and interested instructors. This was my first Roan Scholar program and I went as a single but I always felt comfortable, welcome and a part of the group. Great experience. I may repeat the program at some future date.

The program, "Looking on the Bright Side...", held at the YMCA Lodge near Potosi, MO, was exactly what we were looking for, and met our expectations quite nicely. Program leaders were knowledgeable and made the program quite enjoyable, and fellow attendees also contributed to the overall experience. Overall, the venue and food were good; however, having hearing-assistive devices available would have been helpful.

Doris from Dallas, TX Number of programs attended: 3

This program was the best I have attended. It certainly lived up to its title in a most delightful way.

The "easy" rating was accurate. It was easy to navigate the lodge where we were staying and the field trip was also "easy".

The instructors did a great job engaging everyone in this light-hearted delightful program. I particularly enjoyed the beautiful location for walking. My husband & I normally attend more active programs, but this was a trip for my Mom. It did not disappoint either of us. We are considering repeating this program in the future.
