The tour name "Three Jewels in Paradise" is very appropriately named. If you seek three very unique and special natural features of Costa Rica that will bring great memories for years...and you want it to be active...this is the trip! Our tour had a special fourth Jewel that was not advertised; our wonderful and extremely knowledgeable guide, Roger.

We loved this trip! Lots of Bio-Diversity and fun things to do. My favorite parts of the trip were at Rafiki Lodge (rafting and horse back riding). Roger, our leader, was awesome. Be aware that there are 5 different hotels that are part of this trip, so there is lots of packing, unpacking and all of the associated logistics. The staff pulled this off without a hitch but it is something to be aware of when deciding if this trip is for you.

This trip was marvelous indeed -- full of marvels, from the brilliant birds and flowers to the incredible mountains, forests, and the Savegre river. The Costa Rican people were so very welcoming, and our guide Jorge was wonderful. I recommend it whole-heartedly!

I would like to add another comment to my traveling companions' positive reviews seen below. I enjoyed this program with them immediately after I had attended another program entitled "A Taste of Costa Rica." The two programs complimented each other beautifully, One itinerary takes you north of San Jose and the other heads south, so there is no duplication in the beautiful countryside that you enjoy. The varied activities of both programs enhance each other. Attending both allows you to not only broaden your knowledge base, but also increase the time that you get to enjoy the fascinating inhabitants of Costa Rica...its gorgeous plants, enchanting wildlife, and warm, hospitable people.

A wonderful introduction to the country and culture as well as the flora and fauna. I highly recommend to anyone who would like to experience Costa Rica. I never would have been able to duplicate this rich and varied learning adventure on my own. Our group leader Edwin Ramirez was the trip's fourth jewel!

First time in central America! I do not speak Spanish but was able to get around without any problem. Costa Rican people were wonderful. Iam 65 and did a rafting trip and a zip line with no problem. On of my trip mates was 85 and did the same! great for older single travelers....Leader was super!

This program was like taking a mobile university-level course in tropical rain forest ecology, supported by exciting and rewarding hands-on experiences with the flora, fauna, and wonderful people of Costa Rica.

If you only have a week to encounter Costa Rica, this tour will give you several samples of its many diverse aspects: mountains, river, and ocean; pristine wilderness, lovely gardens, touristy scene; opportunities to hike, snorkel, white-water raft, zipline, shop. A week full of adventure and fun, smoothly facilitated by our knowledgeable and genial guide Mario.

We selected this program because it seemed to include an interesting variety of destinations (mountain cloud forest, foothills rain forest, and the Pacific coast); reasonable distances between destinations (we did not want to feel like we were spending all our time in a mini van); and some flex ("free") time at each destination. The program met or exceeded our expectations in every way. It was extremely well planned and organized; the activities (nature and bird watching walks, river rafting, and paddling) were fun and interesting; the accommodations were superb; the food was very good (both quality and variety of choices); and the guide and driver were knowledgeable, professional, and just delightful people to travel with.

My recent trip to Costa Rica was absolutely wonderful. Our knowledgeable guide taught us about the culture, environment, nature and "pura vita" way of life. The land was beautiful with its majestic green mountains, refreshing waterfalls, turquoise blue Pacific ocean and the winding roads that cut through valleys of small towns and plantations. Fresh fruit drinks were a daily delight as were the buffets of native foods. The variety of activities included bird watching hikes through a cloud forest, a safari trip, snorkeling in the Pacific Ocean, touring an open market and coffee plantation, walking the beach, photographing monkeys, white-water rafting and enough free time to add a kayaking tour or a zip-line ride. It was a fun adventure with a warm and friendly group of people who helped to make this trip a very positive experience.

This is a wonderful trip that highlights three of Costa Rica's remarkable climate zones. The flora and fauna seen on this trip were fantastic. Our leader was personable, knowledgeable and fun. I can't imagine anything better!!

We enjoyed this trip very much because we learned about the nature around us, responsible use of the land and its resources and met people who ran small businesses that enriched our understanding of Costa Rica. Our guide and driver were professional, prepared and delightful.

We loved this trip! The lush beauty of Costa Rica is amazing - colorful birds, all kinds of wildlife, mountains and ocean and rain forest, and lovely accommodations. We especially enjoyed the rustic lodging at Rafiki and Savegre. The food was delicious, and our small group was companionable and fun to be with. Our guide, Edwin, was superb, as was our driver. This was our second Costa Rica Road Scholar vacation, and both were excellent. I highly recommend the Three Jewels of Costa Rica.

The Jewels of Costa Rica was really a gem of an experience. From hiking to snorkelling and white water rafting, it was filled with new experiences allowing me to live outside my comfort zone yet enjoy every minute. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants to "pura vida".

this was a wonderful program with an excellent guide, Jorge Mario. i very much liked the fact that we were a small group just 17. We were active and therefore saw lots of birds and other wildlife. all the lodgings were excellent. I especially liked the two remote ones, savegre and rafiki-both beautiful spots to spend time. This is my second trip to costa rica. The other was taste of costa rica which was also a great trip.
