See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Excellent trip with some of the best scenery I have ever seen. The picturesque Many Glaciers Lodge and Prince of Whales Hotels are to die for. Mostly it is the mountains, forests, and water that make it so georgeous. We were fortunate enough to have an early snowstorm that closed Going to the Sun Road- but only for a few days- so did the planned itinerary in reverse. The upside was that the mountains now were snow covered! Bring your camera and extra memory. Talks, and hikes led by the guides were great and they are very knowledgeable. Would have liked longer hikes but understand the limitations of the group.

Staff members were great, God did a great job on the scenery. This program is a remarkably good use of the reasonable price.

Great leaders, great fellow participants and beautiful scenery. Exceeded my expectations including really "bad" jokes and puns! Thoroughly enjoyed the adventure.

Glacier National Park was absolutely beautiful despite the rainy weather! Our fearless leaders were fantastic, fun and extremely knowledgeable! The food at the National Park Lodges was quite good. The food and physical layout of Ed & Mully's was below par in my opinion. The Head in Smashed Buffalo Jump museum was really informative and beautiful! The last day of our journey consisted of a long bus ride (even though we got to stop and get off somewhat frequently)and the day before was also a low energy day, although we had a short, beautiful hike of a mile or so. This leads me to the designation of this being considered an active program. I will take responsibility for not having read more carefully what active meant. I personally would have chosen a more "active" program. Glacier National Park is breathtaking and not to be missed!

The Glacier Park is one of the countries most beautiful spots and should not be missed.

Glacier and Waterton Lakes are simply magnificent! This trip takes you smoothly from one luscious and gorgeous location to another. Even though it had been in the 90s the week before, it was cold and wet during our trip but that simply did not dampen the enjoyment of the trip as we were out hiking during breaks in the weather and enjoying the splendor and majesty of this amazing spot on the earth, including wonderful wildlife, during moist times. As Martha said, the leadership team was perfection. We learned a great deal about the Black Foot. Stayed in wonderful authentic lodges. Ate too much delicious huckleberry pie etc. If you have wanted to go on the Highway-to-the-Sun, I recommend you take a look at this trip.

Stephanie, Ellen, Brian were excellent--You need to keep them as a team. In spite of the weather drawbacks we did not miss out on any experiences in the park. Their compatibility with each other and with each of us was remarkable.

We throughly enjoyed this trip. IT was listed as active and it was but it accommodated less active people such as me and yet it was a congenial integrated group. Part of my family homesteaded in the northwest and I got closer to them by actually being there. I have had such an interest in mountains in the west. We hiked in the Sierras for years. The Rockies and high pass were

Together Leif Castren and Ellen Horowitz gave us a peek into their backyard---Glacier Park. (What a perfect blend of the energy and eagerness of youth and the deep passion and matched energy from 30 years of Glacier teaching! )They shared their expertise and in doing so, gave us the “eyes” to read the landscape. They shared their knowledge of the formation of the mountains through glacial movement, the changes in the forests and wildflowers as spring moves up the mountain, and their amazing ability to spot wildlife. Their attention to our interests and needs was always in the forefront. Every day we were out on a path experiencing Glacier! The animal sightings were amazing, thanks to their keen eyes! This Glacier-Waterton week was the best trip we could have imagined. Loving group. Loving leaders. A place to know and love! Tina and Mac Watts Great Mills, MD

This was the ultimate in experiences for us. The park itself, the people in our group and our most qualified leaders provided an unforgettable eight days. Who would think that a 22 year old male could be so knowledgeable and compassionate as well as congenial with his elders? Thanks to all who made this trip the best.

Glacier-Waterton July 7-14, 2014. This international peace park is a treasure that I wish everyone could see and appreciate. It is like entering another world. I highly recommend this trip - you will learn a lot about forests, individual trees, wildflowers, and glaciers. The guides are excellent and the accommodations truly unique. Emily Schwartz, Florida

A great trip, very informative and the group leaders were awesome. What I really liked was the diversity of the program and the fact that we had many opportunities to hike and see historical sites and were not just driving from one place to another.

Experiencing Glacier National Park as part of a Road Scholar group is a chance to enjoy a truly sublime experience. Knowledgeable guides and instructors add substance to the world of this mountain wilderness. This is a real chance to soar above our everyday world!

Staying the Glacier Park lodges was a great "mountains in your face" experience. Our leaders took us on hikes, according to our abilities, pointing out geology & wildlife.

Excellent program. Our group leaders and presenters were top notch... they were delightfully passionate about their experiences with and knowledge about the area. And, our bus drivers, besides competently negotiating the roads, shared their knowledge about the parks with us. It's difficult to beat the scenery offered by Glacier National Park and Glacier National Peace Park. The Remington Carriage Museum and Head Smashed-In Buffalo Jump Museum are gems. As Betty from Greensboro has noted, the group leaders offered three different levels of hikes to accommodate our group's interests. And, they were attentive to our numerous questions. Our accommodations and meals were, in my opinion, great. Many Glacier Lodge and Prince of Wales Hotel aren't your comfy five-star type places.... thank goodness.... they' offer a chance to enjoy really comfortable, peaceful nights fueled by fresh mountain air.

A great trip! The instructors are the best of the best as are the leaders. The large group was divided into 3 groups to best accommodate the physical comfort level of all. The only way to see so much of Glacier/Waterton parks. Do it!

The grandeur of the Glacier and Waterton National Parks is extraordinary. The Many Glacier and the Prince of Wales Hotels are splendid examples of the architecture of the period in which they were created. The experience of this program will remain in you memory for many years to come.

Altogether a wonderful program - great accommodations, excellent food, unbelievable mountains. And a special treat to be able to stay in the historic lodges. We were fortunate to see much wildlife - at a safe distance! Our leaders were excellent and able to share their knowledge in the classroom as well as out on the trail.

I just came home from my second Road Scholar trip. My husband and I commented to each other several times that it was money well spent. The interaction with curious and interesting people, the knowledge of our field instructors and group leader and the accommodations made for a satisfying and enjoyable week. We're already planning our next trip. On a scale of 1 to 10--I give it an 11!!

We enjoyed our trip but found that some of the things we expected did not happen. We spent more time in Big Mountain and less time in Glacier park than I expected. The food in the Park was out standing but was not as highly rated in Big Mountain with barely adequate breakfast, and catered meals of pasta, salad, and desert in various locations which did not compare to rest of trip. Did enjoy our 2 week and the people we met.

This is an excellent trip with one giant caveat. It is NOT an active trip, in that there are almost no planned hikes into the parks. There are a few nature walks, and the guides are excellent in their knowledge, but if you are seeking an active trip, where you can walk at a reasonable pace and explore popular hiking paths, you will be disappointed. For example, it made no sense to us to schedule a whole morning inside Many Glacier Lodge (for a lecture on bears). My wife and I (on our own, at our expense) signed up for a Lodge-sponsored boat ride and hike to Grinnell Lake, which was excellent. I cannot fathom why this wasn't part of the RS itinerary; the lecture could have been given anytime. So go if you are relatively sedentary, don't particularly care to hike, and just want an overview of the two parks. The hotel lodges chosen are the best places to stay in either park, and (via the bus) you will get to see much of the area. But choose a more active trip if you want to experience the waterfalls and vistas and lakes on your own two feet. I do believe some hikes and a higher level of activity could easily be built into this program, but that is not the way it was designed. Road Scholar should change the activity level from 'active' to 'moderate'. Listed that way, I would give it a 10 out of 10. Larry Martin

While all of our 3 previous RoadScholar trips have been fantastic experiences, the leaders of this trip were exceptional. Steph Paidas, in particular, was not only very knowledgeable, well organized and caring, she really kept her cool when 2 group members needed a trip to the hospital, demonstrating that RoadScholar leaders know how to handle the unexpected with grace and panache.
