Road Scholar
Program #12774RJ
7 Days | 6 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

This Road Scholar trip was everything I had hoped for and more. The landscape is fabulous, the tour guide a joy to be with, and the physical activity kept the heart pumping.

This was one of the best Road Scholar/Elderhostel experiences I've had. The location was perfect, the activities highly enjoyable, and the accommodations excellent. Best of all, I made many new friends and feel inspired to book another adventure ASAP!

Akiko from Florence, OR Number of programs attended: 1

As a new RS traveler and traveling alone for the first time, this program was beyond my expectations regarding lodging, destination, director, driver, speakers, side trips, and even the weather. Great job.

Gay from Mountainville, NY Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 09/23/12 - 09/29/12
The guide was delightful and the program was of high interest throughout. I have difficulty walking, and the guide was very helpful in getting a wheelchair when appropriate, making certain aspects of programs more easily accessible to me. That was so appreciated.

I have taken several Elder Hostel trips, and have enjoyed each of them. They give a lot at an affordable rate. The people, who have been on the trips, are experienced travelers and "go with the flow". All in all, well worth what I get out of them.

Terry from Benson, AZ Number of programs attended: 4
Date attended: 09/21/08 - 09/27/08
Terry Wangsness, Benson, AZ Number of Programs: 3 I took this trip 9/21/08- 9/27/08, the lodging was wonderful, our program director was great. We had wonderful lectures and field trips to Mt. Rushmore which is a humbling experience, The Tatanka Museum was a great learning experience about the Lakota/Sioux Indians, the 1880's train ride to Deadwood City was fun, and the local guide by bus was hilarious... Would love to go back but then there are still many places I want to see. The farewell party was fun with wine and appetizers. We had a compatible group.

Judith from Alhambra, CA Number of programs attended: 8
Date attended: 08/26/12 - 09/01/12
The educational perspective Road Scholar brings to its trips exceeds those of other travel groups I have been with. It enhances the experience by far and you can usually count on other participants coming with the same open-mindedness as oneself.

This was our first Road Scholar adventure. We had heard about it from friends. I have and will continue to praise the program. We hope to take more "adventures" with Road Scholar. Thanks for all your planning to make this a memorable experience.
