We found this to be a most enjoyable program and strongly recommend to those who want to learn more about the area. We are considering other programs in the area for the future. New York has such a diverse history and geology.

I learned a great deal about the region of the Finger Lakes, even though I lived there in my youth. I especially enjoyed visiting the museums in Corning and Watkins Glen State Park. Jenny Monroe was exceptionally qualified to lead us in this program.

The Finger Lakes Sampler was our first (of hopefully many) adventures. It exceeded our expectations and we have returned home refreshed, rejuvenated and thankful for all we saw, learned and experienced. A great value and a vacation experience that really delivers!

This program was an excellent mix of outdoor activities (boat ride, Watkins Glen visit, Corning walking tour); museum visits (Corning Glass, Rockwell Western); three wineries including one historical one; and evening lectures on local subjects. The lodgings were very comfortable (ac and heat worked great, both were needed!) Meals at the Center were basic but tasty and satisfying, a BYOB policy allowed wine bought during the day at the winery to be drunk at dinner. The trip was not strenuous and various levels of fitness were accommodated. Leader Jenny and staff were very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. They have a new plush mini-bus for transport. Best spot for the free night dinner is not in Corning but in local diner Jellybeans. There were opportunities to hike and swim at the Center. One should be prepared for both warm, cool, and wet weather with good walking shoes and perhaps a walking stick for the Watkins Glen visit. Cell service at the Center is a toss-up at best due to hills. Wifi works a bit sporadically. Landline phones are provided in rooms, but no TVs. The atmosphere at the Center is peaceful and the scenery is great.

Jenny Monroe, the trip leader, is a gem! Her knowledge spans a wide range and her presentation is delightful. Everything worked smoothly, too. Accommodations were a little rustic, but perfectly comfortable and clean. Food was plentiful as well as tasty. Kitchen was responsive to special requests, too. The program mix was ideal, and the scenery in the Finger Lakes region is gorgeous.

If you like air travel, don't miss the Glenn Curtiss Museum and talk to the men who volunteer there to recreate the old aircraft. They make them, then have flown the recreated AMERICA! She is beautiful.
