Anyone who experienced the Vietnam War era, whether in uniform or on a college campus or in front of the TV, and has never seen the country firsthand owes it to themselves to make this trip. The friendliness of both the Vietnamese and Cambodians belies the fact that such a long and bitter war transpired in the area. Any fear of lingering animosities was quickly dispelled by the hospitality shown us in both Vietnam and Cambodia, despite the protracted conflict of half a century ago. The only program stop pertaining to the war was the Cu Chi tunnels where was demonstrated the lengths people were prepared to go to resist foreign military forces. In Cambodia, we had sobering visits to a killing field and a Khmer Rouge prison. But the remainder of the time is filled with varied and delightful activities ranging from a cooking class and rickshaw ride in old Hanoi to a moonlit sail on Halong Bay to climbing the exquisite temple remains in the Angkor Wat Archaeological Park. There is something for everyone on this trip as well as a chance for closure on some unpleasant memories for those of us of draft age during the Vietnam War. Thuyen Van Nguyen is the perfect program leader, sensitive yet authoritative in his presentations and eager to show Americans modern day Vietnam.

This program was exceptional because of the leader, Mr Dung, who managed us, our varied interest and abilities very well. The program is very full, sights are beautiful and experiences unique to the locations. I would certainly recommend this program to anyone interested in modern Vietnam and Cambodia, especially after those countries have experienced so many wars and so much heartbreak in the recent past. Well done Roadscholar

This program exceeded our expectations -- the tour leader was exceptional, the group very congenial, and the activities were very well -paced and planned. Having the good fortune to be in Vietnam during the lunar New Year added so much to our experience and drew us even more fully into the culture and physical beauty of the country; even the weather cooperated! Yes, it's hot, but February is probably one of the best times to travel there. And we got a better glimpse into an incredibly rich culture that we might otherwise have missed.

We loved our trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. The guide was an unusually forthcoming fascinating leader through a complex society, and we left our trip with a greater understanding of some of the layers of Southeast Asia.

This program is wonderful in all respects. Do take seriously the advice to bring clothes that are comfortable (even in their winter) for very hot and humid weather. Only Hanoi is temperate.

People of the Mekong is hard to review. On the one hand, you experience unbelievable beauty, both natural and man made. Then you see the ugly side of man, the impact of torture and war, followed by a glimpse at incredible resilience of people who refuse to be held down. The program was well designed, had a great variety of activities, and gives one a good taste of unfamiliar culture and cuisine. The leader was superb. If you attend programs with the idea of having your eyes opened and you can handle some climbing up temple stairs or maneuvering in and out of boats, then this program is probably for you.

This was a terrific trip and I highly recommend it. I learned a lot, saw interesting thing, was kept busy, and feel that I better understand 2 different cultures. The Vietnamese and Cambodians were very welcoming to us. Our leader was wonderful.

The Viet Nam/Cambodia trip was excellent, very exciting and informative and our guide/leader was the best I've ever had. Be prepared for a fast-paced trip that will challenge you physically and mentally and will expand your understanding of Southeast Asian cultures, perspectives, and history that are very different from ours as Americans. Traveling halfway around the world is a challenge in and of itself and flying Singapore Airlines as scheduled by Road Scholar helped to make my trip enjoyable and my adjustment as easy as possible.

This trip was a real eye opener for me. I had expected a totally different experience behind the "bamboo curtain." Our guide was wonderful--very open and able to explain most everything--educational experiences were varied and interesting. Visited a variety of places--city and rural. Communism was not what I thought it would be at all. Take this trip and learn what reality is!

We also had a great trip. Loved our guide Mr. Thinh who was a model of patience, humor, and information in spite of rudeness and insulting and demanding behavior by a few in the group. We learned a great deal about Vietnam and Cambodia and recommend this trip to others.

We had a great trip. I want to compliment Mr Thinh who was our guide in Vietnam. Excellent guide. Polite, humorous, informed ,patient with some rudeness in our group. Road Scholar should keep him in mind for future tours.
