My husband and I are from CA and are frequent travelers, however this was our first Road Scholar experience. And we can't wait to do another! We enjoyed everything about it! We also were very lucky to have perfect weather! Being novice kayakers we were pleased with the terrific guides we had who patiently helped us with our gear, kayaks, paddling lessons, and paddling with the tidal schedules! They were fun, accessable, professional and very knowledgeable about the area and history! Our accomodations were fabulous, our hosts warm, accomodating, and great cooks, and our rooms beautiful and cozy! I can truly say this is one of the best vacations we have ever had! I can't wait to do another active adventure with Road Scholar. This one has "set the bar pretty high!"

Kayaking the Lower Columbia River was truly an extraordinary experience from beginning to end! The adventure was fine tuned and never missed a beat. The Inn at Crippen Creek provided a wonderful home away from home and the Columbia River Kayaking guides were beyond exceptional. What a fabulous way to explore the great Northwest Territory. As always, the people enrolled in this program were a wonderful blend of fun loving, adventurers who immediately became friends. I would highly recommend this program and I am confident that you will not be disappoited.

I would highly recommend this program to everyone I speak to. The guides Andrew, Levi and Katie were awesome. They are what made the program the best experience of my life and make me look forward to my next adventure. Don and Kitty were warm welcoming and kind. And the food they prepared was delicious. They welcomed us into their home and made us all feel more like good friends than guests at their lovely B and B.

History, bald eagles, banana slugs, sparkling waters, misty mornings- we had it all. Evenings filled with delicious food, fascinating programs and musical entertainment that included banjos. What a wonderful trip! I love sight seeing from a kayak feeling close (but not too close) to the water.

My experience on the lower Columbia River kayaking trip will keep me coming back to Road Scholar numerous times in the hope of recapturing the same sense of excitement, adventure, community - pure joy! Linda

A fabulous, physically challenging outdoor program on the lower Columbia River, one of America's truly great wonders. An exciting surprise is that we were following some of the final river journey of Lewis & Clark as their expedition neared the Pacific Ocean. I am in good health, 70+, but not athletically fit nor a very experienced kayaker. I could keep up with the group (the oldest participant was 80+), but it was a work-out. I eagerly look forward to another opportunity.

A fun trip with interesting people. The guides were knowledgeable, interesting and always helpful. And the location with its scenery was perfect. I wish it had lasted several days longer. The evening programs were always interesting and relevant. I was not sure what to expect from the evening music programs, but Andrew, I really liked them and your groups were great (yes, a cello is a wonderful sound that complements banjos, guitars, mandolins, mandocello (?) and auto harps nicely).

I just returned from the most WONDERFUL 4 days. I am a novice kayaker and have dreamed of doing a trip along the Lewis and Clark trail. This trip was truly a lifetime experience. The Columbia River Kayaking company knows their stuff. The owners Andrew and Mark are jewels to experience. The B&b's beyond compare. To take on a new sport at the age of 74 and come away feeling like I can walk on water is so Special. Thank You Road Scholar.

Andrew and Mark were the best guides ever on the Columbia River trip. They were were helpful, patient, flexible, very knowledge, entertaining, multi-talented, delightful guides. The equipment was new and well fitted to the participants. They easily accommodated various levels of kayaking experience. They had a wealth of information.

Carol from Seattle, WA Number of programs attended: 10

Excellent in all respects. Mark and Andrew and Katy were the best of all possible guides for kayaking on the river, noting with great care the changing tides, winds, and currents. The accommodations were delightful and the food especially delicious and nourishing. To top it all off, there were two evenings of music portraying the Lewis and Clark era and the Lower Columbia area. It all seemed rather magical.

David from Mount Airy, NC Number of programs attended: 7

If you can only take one kayaking trip, this should be the one! We've been to 5 others and Skamokawa is the only one we've chosen to repeat.

Susan from Palo Alto, CA Number of programs attended: 3

This was a very rich, kayaking trip! The information about Lewis and Clark Expedition was presented in a way that was interesting and relevant. The accommodations were comfortable and the food was outstanding! The kayaking averaged 4-6 hours on 3 days. The trips were well planned with the tides and winds. Andrew and Mark are very knowledgeable. The evening programs were great! I highly recommend this trip to people who love nature and the history of the area.

Renee from Seattle, WA Number of programs attended: 2

Kayaking in the Lower Coumbia River is an exeptionlly rewarding program. I participated in the general program, not the advanced, and can't say enough to recommend the guides and the experience. Go for it!

This was a truly rich experience, weaving the history of the Lewis and Clark Exhibition with water travel on the Columbia, nature study, informative music programs, and just plain fun. The fabulous guides do a STELLAR job of making this truly a quality experience; I am a teacher by trade and very particular about instructors; Andrew and Mark are teachers in the true sense of the word and I found myself excited about every aspect of this program's learning. I am a fifty-eight year old who shared this with my 87 year old dad; we both returned from the week inspired and smiling. After the week was over, it was clear to both of us that we had participated in something great! You can't miss on this one.

Penny from La Mesa, CA Number of programs attended: 15
Date attended: 06/30/13 - 07/05/13
This is so much more than an expertly run kayak trip using the ultimate in quality gear. It is a cultural, botanical, historical and musical extravaganza lead by guides who know how to have fun and to connect with each individual in a group. All details of lodging, food and activities were first rate and Andrew's and Mark's expertise in kayak safety reassuring, though not needed in real time. I was fortunate to be able to enjoy this trip in 1999, its first year, and could not wait to share it with my adult daughter this time when it was even better. You will not be disappointed.

Carol from Silver Spring, MD Number of programs attended: 8

Don't hesitate: sign up now for this wonderful experience! Great guides, delicious food, comfortable B & B's with warm, friendly hosts, and kayaking in beautiful waters with the tides. The two concerts with guide Andrew and friends are amazing....even for big city folks like us who go to lots of concerts. Never kayaked before? Don't worry: Andrew, Mark, Katie, and other guides will help you along, Single or double, it's a great experience!

Heidi from San Diego, CA Number of programs attended: 1

Wonderful experience! The guides were knowledgeable and fun, the food, entertainment and accommodations were great. I am looking forward to more Road Scholar trips in the future.

Adele Brady from Redmond, WA Number of programs attended: 1

This was my first Road Scholar trip, and I was extremely pleased. The leadership of the kayaking itself, and the hospitality and food at the B&B, were superb. And the education experience, the storytelling, the music, the history, all made this a great experience.

Joyce from Barstow, CA Number of programs attended: 3
Date attended: 06/30/13 - 07/05/13
This is an outstanding trip for those who are interested in learning to kayak. You will also learn a great deal about the Lewis and Clark Expedition and music of all types.

Ed from Redmond, WA Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 06/30/13 - 07/05/13
This is an outstanding program, not only because of the venue and the physical activities, but also the people who run it. They really embody the spirit of the residents of the lower Columbia, and made me appreciate a lifestyle quite different from mine. The musical presentations by Andrew's groups were the icing on a very rich cake. The talent and dedication was very evident and enjoyed by all participants.

Lincoln from Rochester, NY Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 06/02/13 - 06/07/13
This was our first Road Scholar event, but it won't be the last! Aside from a terrific experience on the water in our kayaks, the whole trip was enriching in so many ways. For instance, every day brought different aspects of the Lewis and Clark expedition to life. Our guides Andrew and Mark are amazingly talented, knowledgeable, and experienced. At the same time, they are still curious about the region and looking for new discoveries to share with us. The evening programs with music and lectures were very well done, with enthusiasm and knowledge. Bravo! Encore!

Barbara from Hayward, CA Number of programs attended: 12
Date attended: 06/02/13 - 06/07/13
Another great adventure in Skamokawa! This is the third time I have attended this program and the place and people remain exquisite. You have not experienced performance music at its best until you hear Willapa Hills group singing songs of the place and see and hear Andrew and Jeffrey playing music of Thomas Jefferson and the Lewis and Clark expedition. Amazing talent in this little community of Skamokawa. Oh, yes, and the River...Lucky Mud B&B...the land...the old school/Redmen Hall/museum/visitor center/book and souvenir shop. WOW.
