ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

A very enjoyable program. You have good instructors and see a lot of the pacific northwest.

I can't think of a better way to experience the truly varied geology, flora, fauna, history, & scenery of Oregon and N. California. The only caveat - you will move around quite a bit (although time on the bus was well utilized with talks, videos, and well-timed stops).

Oregon coast, redwoods, Crater Lake, lavalands - the tour delivered everything expected and more. Our leader, Kathleen Fitzgerald, was absolutely wonderful, as was our bus driver, Tim. Highly recommend this trip. MW, Madison, Wisconsin

Do not miss the Oregon Road Scholar program! The weather on our September 7 to 16 trip was ideal! We were fortunate to experience the coast and the Redwoods in glorious sunshine! Carol and Lynn were marvelous co-leaders.

A 'bucket list' trip that gets a check mark with 5 stars next to it. Thanks to the Unsers, our wonderful guides and driver too, and to all of my fellow travelers, this trip exceeded my expectations. The accomadations and meals were perfect. Everyday was packed with interesting facts, gorgeous scenery and great camaraderie....what more could you want?

This program was a wonderful experience. It was well organized and we learned a lot about the geology of the area.
The Oregon Coast, the sand dune buggy rides, the Rogue River boat ride, the California redwoods, Crater Lake and Lava Land were all great to see and learn about.
Motels we stayed at were very comfortable and the food was good to excellent. Carol and Lynn Unser were great coordinators and educators.

Oregon has a tremendous beauty, geographic diversity and the local people were very hospitable.

I loved the beautiful state of Oregon and felt that this trip took us to many of the highlights. The lodging was all excellent from the sea-view rooms on the coast to my quaint little room at the Caves Chateau. Most of the meals were good with the highlights being Lord Bennett's and Spinners. My favorite place was the California Redwoods - they were so awe-inspiring and Jenny did a wonderful job explaining everything to us. I have come away with a new appreciation for all of the elements of the earth working in harmony. Carol's explanations on geology (and everything else!) were excellent and Lynn's driving was awesome. I took this program right after taking 'The Many Faces of Oregon'. If you are from far away, I would recommend this combination. You get a good taste of most parts of Oregon. Thanks to all of my travelling companions for helping to make the trip so enjoyable!

Terry Wangsness, Benson, AZ Number of programs attended:4 My favorite part of this trip was the beautiful Oregon Coast, the Jet Boat ride up the Rogue River was a blast and the lunch at Singing Springs Resort was a wonderful buffet...the dune buggy ride was fun, wish it was longer. Crater Lake is gorgeous! Used to dislike fog until I found out how beneficial it is to the beautiful redwood trees. Just loved Jenny, she made me want to learn more, she had my undivided interest. Best meals were at Lord Bennett's and Spinner's. The Salmon is wonderful, and nut crusted halibut at Lord Bennett's to die for. Would have like to get more walking in, just not what the brochure said. The lodging was very nice and I especially enjoyed the indoor swimming pools. Lava Land is fascinating and that is where you will stretch your legs if you walk the trails. Crater Lake is beautiful. Sisters is a lovely Western town, a friend and I ate at Slick's Que Co..wonderful BBQ. Multnomah Falls is beautiful, but be prepared for tons of visitors. The museum at Warm Springs is wonderful...Great trip!

Very interesting program. Oregon is very diverse and we saw so many different environments and a lot of wild life. Well lead, fun activities and great leaders. A lot of bus time, but necessary to get to all the places.
