ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Exceptional tour guides presented a wealth of information in a clear and entertaining fashion. Well organized. Spectacular scenery!

Nancy (Rush) eloquently shared my feelings. What a great program! I definitely will share my thoughts and feelings with my colleagues. I would not hesitate to recommend the program and Carol, Lynn and Tim to all interested in the history, culture and sciences associated with the NW US.

What a wonderful total experience- program leaders, programming and co-attendees. The combined knowledge and experience of the co-leaders made this a "must do" program for all people who want to experience great scenery and learn more about the interdependence between nature and culture. Information was presented in a most memorable way- not at all "talking heads." Juan de Fuco would be proud that his efforts are being commemorated in a most outstanding way.

An excellent program with amazing sights in Oregon and California and the best leaders. Carol and Lynn made the tour enjoyable as well as educational. And hats off to Tim, our bus driver. One of my best travel experiences ever.

Sondra from Broomfield, CO Number of programs attended: 21
Date attended: 09/05/14 - 09/14/14
This program is a great introduction to the Oregon and northern California coast. If you have never been there before, this is as good as it gets. In addition you meet curious and congenial people like yourself, and leaders who tie together the whole experience.

Eunice from State College, PA Number of programs attended: 5

The Oregon Coastal Journey tour far exceeded my expectations. I never expected to learn so much about geology in such an enjoyable way. (I now want to learn more!) Carol and Lynn Unser were incredible instructors. They presented so much educational content in such a fun way. The activities, such as the dune buggy and jet boat, were also fun as well as relevant to the content. The scenery was incredible and came alive under the instructors' leadership. Their sense of humor made the entire experience fun as well as educational. They made an effort to know the individual participants and to build group cohesion. They mingled with the group members during meals rather than sitting apart. They made Tim, the bus driver, an integral part of the team which he deserved. The entire tour experience was top-notch!

This is a wonderful program. The scenery is amazingly varied, the accommodations great, the bus very comfortable, and the Lynn and Carol are the best tour leaders. The weather in fall was pefect, just keep in mind it's cold on the coast.

Lynne from Flourtown, PA Number of programs attended: 23

Many stunning sights from the oceanside to the redwoods to the marble caves. A great trip, with meals ranging from superb to let-me-outta-here on the latter part of the trip. I especially enjoyed the oceanside hotels as well as the Chateau on top of the mountain where we were the only guests. This part of the country is truly beautiful.

I experience NATURE in wide variety on my recent Road Scholar adventure to Oregon coast, Crater Lake, and California Redwoods. Learning by BEING there is the best.

Diana from Hamlin, NY Number of programs attended: 2

I enjoyed the trip form sand dunes to the waterfall. I was so impressed also by the cleanness of the whole state. All the people were so friendly as well. The leaders gave us a great education on the evolution of the great state. Thank you

Daniel from Edmond, OK Number of programs attended: 5

This is an excellent program to see one of the really beautiful parts of our country, and to get a glimpse of the evolutionary changes that have made it so beautiful.

A great vacation! The wonderful beauty and coolness of the coast, lushness of the mountain trails, visits to some lighthouses, a dune buggy ride over the amazing sand dunes, an exhilarating jet boat ride up the Rogue River, the majestic redwoods, an interesting mountain cave to explore, a fascinating walk through the lava lands, the stunning beauty of Crater Lake, and a picturesque seaside village to shop! Fine accommodations, tasty food, good bus and driver, wonderful group and great tour guides -- what more can I say?

John from Palmdale, CA Number of programs attended: 28

A good program and a good group. Excellent leaders and a great bus driver. What's not to like?

If you have not been to Oregon, take this trip! You will see so much of the spectacular coastline, dunes, mountains, farms and forest, along with the amazing California redwoods and stunning Crater Lake. Our fantastic leaders, Carol and Lynn, shared their vast knowledge and warm enthusiasm, and our bus driver Veril kept us safe and smiling. Great camaraderie, wonderful program!

We just returned from a trip on the Oregon coast. It was a well organized and planned adventure. Could not have asked for a better group to spend our time with. Instructors, lodging and meals were wonderful. Granted the weather was great but I do believe we would have had a good time no matter what. Thanks to all for a great trip. Even our bus driver Veril also known as DABD made this a good time for all. Al & Carla

This trip had well-informed and entertaining leaders and involved visiting some of the most spectacular scenery in America.

Nelson from Omaha, NE Number of programs attended: 9
Date attended: 06/20/14 - 06/29/14
The leaders were outstanding and the program's itinerary was excellent. The sleeping accommodations were very pleasant and the food was for the most part quite good. The eight day program showed that western Oregon and northern California are very interesting and beautiful places to visit

Ross from Mountain City, TX Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 06/20/14 - 06/29/14
Overall, a wonderful program that more than met my expectations. The instructors are knowledgeable and friendly. Sites visited were both educational and beautiful. We also saw numerous species of wildlife. However, while the food in most locations was good to excellent a couple of meals were of poor quality and service.

Joan from Rensselaer, NY Number of programs attended: 12

I can't think of a better way to experience the truly varied geology, flora, fauna, history, & scenery of Oregon and N. California. The only caveat - you will move around quite a bit (although time on the bus was well utilized with talks, videos, and well-timed stops).

Myron from Madison, WI Number of programs attended: 3
Date attended: 08/23/13 - 09/01/13
Oregon coast, redwoods, Crater Lake, lavalands - the tour delivered everything expected and more. Our leader, Kathleen Fitzgerald, was absolutely wonderful, as was our bus driver, Tim. Highly recommend this trip. MW, Madison, Wisconsin

Nancy from Bristol, CT Number of programs attended: 2

Do not miss the Oregon Road Scholar program! The weather on our September 7 to 16 trip was ideal! We were fortunate to experience the coast and the Redwoods in glorious sunshine! Carol and Lynn were marvelous co-leaders.

A 'bucket list' trip that gets a check mark with 5 stars next to it. Thanks to the Unsers, our wonderful guides and driver too, and to all of my fellow travelers, this trip exceeded my expectations. The accomadations and meals were perfect. Everyday was packed with interesting facts, gorgeous scenery and great camaraderie....what more could you want?

Helen from Amherst, MA Number of programs attended: 76

This program was a wonderful experience. It was well organized and we learned a lot about the geology of the area.
The Oregon Coast, the sand dune buggy rides, the Rogue River boat ride, the California redwoods, Crater Lake and Lava Land were all great to see and learn about.
Motels we stayed at were very comfortable and the food was good to excellent. Carol and Lynn Unser were great coordinators and educators.
