Altho it's cliche, this WAS the trip of a lifetime if you love hiking & mountains & new cultures & peoples. We were fortunate to have an excellent Nepalese Group Leader, Rajendra Gurung. He added immeasurably to the success of our trip. Trip highlights included: amazing views of Machhapuchre ("Fish Tail"), a sacred mtn, and Annapurna South, emerging from the clouds at the head of the Modi River Valley; delicious filling breakfasts eaten on the lawn of the Himalayan Lodge in Ghandruk, while gazing up at Annapurna Range peaks; climbing thousands of stone steps carefully & laboriously placed on mountain sides by Nepalese people over millenia; Nepalese children celebrating the Hindu Festival of Dewali by singing folk songs, dancing & linking arms to block our path until we made a small, voluntary offering; seeing one-horned rhinos from the back of an elephant & floating down the Rapti River bordering Chitwan National Park at sunset in a dugout canoe, then spotting rhinos on opposite sides of the river at the end of our float. This is a trip not to be missed. I only have superlatives to describe the program, the variety of experiences, and our excellent guide, Rajendra. Even so, one must travel there in person to truly understand how amazing Nepal can be.

This was a truely wonderful trip, far exceeding our already high expectations. You get a real sence of the country, its spectacular scenery, beautiful people, and history on this trip.

If you think trekking in Nepal is tough, this progam is strenuous. If you think looking at the snow-capped Himalaya is fascinating, this is a life-changing experience. If you think dwelling in Nepal lodges is always a hardship, this progam will change your mind. You can be spoiled with private bath, hot showers, and happy hours with Everest beers.

Trekking in Nepal was a wonderful trip. We enjoyed the time in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan. Our tour guide, Monaj Aryal, was gracious and knowledgeable and gave us historical and cultural insights at every turn. We then traveled to Pokhara and from there launched our five day trek in the mountains below the Annapurna range. What a fabulous experience. The trekking itself was a good and enjoyable physical challenge. Monaj also gave us many opportunities to meet people in their homes and fields, to visit museums and learn more about rural life. We thoroughly enjoyed the Ker and Downey lodges. No matter how rigorous the day was, we always seemed to make it back for tea time. Our trekking guide, Budha, provided us with walking sticks, ponchos when it rained, and electrolyte mix for our water. He also gave informative talks at several rural small museums. We looked forward to a knock on our door at 6 AM as it meant that the clouds had cleared and we could breakfast at tables on the lawn of the lodge while gazing at the spectacular peaks of the Annapurna range. Finally, the few days we spent at Chitwan National Park were so interesting and we learned a lot. We enjoyed the rides on elephants, in ox carts and the jeep. We were fortunate to see a lot of animals while there. On the whole, we felt this trip was magical. By the way, there were only four of us trip members and our trip partners were delightful. Our drives between cities was on awful roads. On the other hand, our driver was excellent. The travel also gave us opportunities to see little shops, city life, the countryside, and have good talks.

Trekking in Nepal was fantastic. The stunning countryside, the people, the history and culture are a winning combination. Our compatible small group was led by a fine Nepali trip leader who was knowledgeable, friendly and organized. His sense of humour and his ability to be flexible are great assets. I have wanted to go to Nepal for many years. I'm so glad I finally made it.

Just returned from the 17 Oct from Nepal. It has been an interesting, challenging and fun and one of the best of experiences. It was a challenging trek with lots of stone steps but so worth the effort. I give a lot of credit to our group leader, Niraj Maharjan, and his support staff, including Parshuram our mountain guide. Niraj brought vibrancy and passion, humor and pride to his task of leading our little group, and his efforts brought alive what was before my eyes. I have gained much understanding and appreciation for the culture, people and hopes of Nepal. The Ker & Downey lodges used for the trek were excellent. The Shangri-La Village Pokhara was very nice. Chitwan National Park and The Temple Tiger Green Resort were great experiences with a busy schedule of jungle activities. The Crowne Plaza in Soaltee was a tourist hotel, nothing special. I am sure there are many good guides, but you will consider yourself blessed if fortunate to get the services of Niraj Maharjan. For day by day description of activities and trek check out my blog at http://home.patbunyard.org. I will also be glad to answer any questions you may have. patbunyard650@gmail.com

I think this was the best and most exciting of my Road Scholar hiking experiences! Nepal's culture was vividly experienced and the trekking in the shadow of the Himalayas, followed by a jungle experience viewing wildlife in its natural habitat were outstanding. The treks were challenging, but the comfort and views at each lodge provided a welcome respite. The Nepalese are friendly, the food was delicious, and the countryside is beautiful. I have learned a great deal about Nepal and myself on this trip.
