See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

What a wonderful in depth history of the Civil War. The accommodations were wonderful, and so was the food. We had an opportunity to see the Mamie Eisenhower decorations and our Battlefield Guide, Larry Wallace, was exceptional. I can't say enough about Nancy Liley, the Program Director and her very qualified assistant. We were fortunate that the town was decorated for the holidays...beautiful.

This was our fourth Road Scholar trip and it was a great experience. Licensed Battlefield Guide, Larry Wallace, was our primary lecturer and guide. Touring the battlefields was quite a moving experience. Additionally, staying at the Gettysburg Hotel enabled us to explore the town as well as the Gettysburg College campus. If you are looking for a profound American history program with Road Scholar, Gettysburg is it.

This is a great program for a quick but in depth history of the Civil War. The activities are varied and interesting with a few extras involved. Gettysburg is a really cute little town with lots of restaurants and cute shops. The Museums and historical sites are numerous and left me with wanting to return to see and learn more. The accommodations were really nice, parking was convenient and the food was great. Our Coordinators were really organized, knowledgeable and helpful. It was a bonus for me that the town was decorated for the holidays. I would highly recommend this trip!

I attended the three day version of the program. If you are interested in the Civil War, particularly Gettysburg battles, this is a great program to learn what went on for three days. Nancy Lilley, program director, was very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Larry Wallace, our certified Civil War guide, was extremely knowledgeable. If people had questions he always remembered to answer them when we got to the site they were asking about. Gettysburg Hotel accommodations were very good except for the food which I thought was marginal. Need more variety at meals.

I learned more about Gettysburg than I ever did sitting in an 8th grade classroom. It brought American History to life. (Especially when I saw family names listed on various monuments!)

The trip to Gettysburg was a wonderful learning experience. Everyone was so helpful and the trip was very well organized for the participants. I'm already looking at another trip with Road Scholar! L. Elder

As usual with Road Scholar, the teaching was superb, done by passionate and highly-informed leaders. And as usual, the planning was meticulous, the time was busy, and the "flow" was excellent. Individual attention was warmly available as needed. The accommodations and meals were both much better than expected. Altogether, a wonderful experience. I never dreamed I would want to know all that I learned.

Mike from Long Beach, CA Number of programs attended: 2

This program was exactly as described. If you know everything about the battles of Gettysburg then this might not be for you. However, if you are interested in this fascinating part of our country's past and want to know more, I highly recommend this program. Perhaps you will come to understand, as I did, that those three days, July 1-3, 1863 may have been the turning point that makes our country what it is today.

Maryetta from Gary, IN Number of programs attended: 3

Ted was amazing! Made the best of a bad situation with the National Park shutdown.

What a wonderful, all-encompassing presentation of an historic event. Thank you.
