We were disappointed by the Wildlife Refuge being closed and a streak of bad weather, however a wonderful staff, cheerful group, and a "new schedule" brought sunshine and fun into a week which could have been otherwise a disappointment. Add good on the spot planning, wonderful food and plenty of information , we were prepared to meet each day and had a wonderful week which included daily surprise destinations. Thanks to Parker, Grant and Alyssa who provided us with info, food and never ending beverage supply!!

This was a magical trip, restful yet packed with learning and amazing sites. Rain and wind were with us each day, yet our instructors: Parker, Grant and Alyssa found activities that would fill our minds and our souls. The first day we went shell hunting on the beach and we saw the water's raw power. On the last day we were finally able to ride the research boat and trawl for marine critters. The water was so calm that it brought calm to all on the boat. We could see the nurturing aspect when we saw and touched the marine life we caught in our net. All too soon the wildlife was returned to the water and we returned to the center for lunch and good-byes. I want to go again to see the ponies and enjoy the quiet beauty of the land and sea.

I enjoyed every aspect of this program! Grant and Alyssa were a treasure trove of information on all the creatures of the marshlands of Chincoteague; I had sea food every day, meals in and out were very good;the evening entertainments were great, people were friendly, accomodations are spartan but adequate-I learned a lot about ducks and now I know that the geese in my backyard are not "Canadian geese"-they are Canada geese.LOL I fell in love with the area and would like to come back to see the 'wild ponie swim' in July.

Just returned from this great vacation. Even though Assateague was closed (government shutdown), the trip was a wonderful experience! We enjoyed great speakers (for example, a man who makes his living duck carving talked about his life and work), wonderful concerts (for example, one by Bob Zentz and his wife http://www.bobzentz.com/ ) and excursions (including trawling and birding in a marshy inlet) - just to name a few of the many activities. Our lodging was quiet, clean, and comfortable. And almost all meals (including some wonderful seafood restaurant meals) were included! And…we made new friends from all over the US! Highly recommended!!!

Visiting Chincoteague Island during Pony Week was a childhood dream. Who knew I would also indulge my passion for space exploration, ecology, and beach walks on this trip too!

Misty of Chincoteague still lives. If you read the book as a child, you will love visiting the area. Not only will you see the ponies, but you will understand what it is to be an Islander. Even if you never read the book, you will learn and enjoy this trip. The Marine Science Consortium presents a wonderful program, full of learning experiences. The local speakers are varied and knowledgeable. You are immersed in local culture. The 3 sheetz music group is excellent and a fun evening's entrainment. You will not be disappointed if you go.

Discover the Islands was the best eating adventure I have ever encountered...and that was not even the point of the program, which was really very wonderful. Leaders, activities and participants all fit together comfortably and we all shared in the excellent learning environment.
