A wonderful relaxing time cruising through the beautiful islands with lots of interesting topics to start new areas for investigation.

Leslie from New Canaan, CT Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 10/10/15 - 10/16/15
THIS TRIP INSPIRED ME, INVIGORATED ME, RELAXED ME, AND MADE WE WANT TO MOVE TO THE ISLANDS FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!!!

Catherine from Mississauga, ON Number of programs attended: 12
Date attended: 10/10/15 - 10/16/15
Unbelievable vistas, alpaca farm visit, informative historical speakers, wildlife info, inter-island ferry trips and much more ... This trip was wonderful! Good accommodation as a base in Friday Harbour on San Juan Island. 35 attendees but we were divided into two groups to make the museum visits more manageable. Angie the Catering Queen created yummy meals & picnic lunch choices, yummmm. Sustainable house building and living lecture was the most fascinating to me = never stop learning! Just do it. ~ from the only Canadian on this trip :-)

David from Irving, TX Number of programs attended: 14
Date attended: 09/19/15 - 09/25/15
Put this program on your must do list. A great value and it will definitely exceed any expectations. San Juan island hopping is super fun. So glad I was able to enjoy Friday Harbor in September, while it's still hot in Texas.

Sue from Modesto, CA Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 09/12/15 - 09/18/15
Native American lore, whale kinship groups, salmon life cycles, British territorial conflict and Northwest fine art- what a jam-packed week in a stunning locale!

William from Meadow Vista, CA Number of programs attended: 24
Date attended: 09/12/15 - 09/18/15
The San Juan Islands are a spectacular portion of the Northwest. The natural beauty and the history is not to be forgotten. Don't know what the Pig War was - you'll learn. Friday Harbor has multiple interesting shops and excellent restaurants. The Washington Ferry System is a scenic and comfortable way to travel through the archipelago.

Sharon from Phoenix, AZ Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 09/12/15 - 09/18/15
Dancing to the music of the San Juan Quintet was a wonderful end to a fun trip.

Rosalind from Newport Beach, CA Number of programs attended: 39
Date attended: 07/25/15 - 07/31/15
This program in the San Juan Islands, WA, is the one to choose, rather than the Hidden Anchorages. Much better use of time and certainly more comfortable because it uses the WA State Ferry System instead of the crowded, noisy, slow "yacht" .

Road Scholar's response:
These two programs are designed as two very different experiences and both are highly rated by previous participants. We greatly appreciate the feedback!
Joyce from Goodyear, AZ Number of programs attended: 2

This was a wonderful Road Scholar program. The San Juan Islands are beautiful, the presenters were excellent, and i enjoyed seeing a part of the country I had never been to before.

Maxine from Galt, CA Number of programs attended: 15

An overall wonderful and rich cultural experience in the beautiful islands of the Pacific Northwest. The ferry rides alone are worth the journey.

Joanne from Malibu, CA Number of programs attended: 1

This trip was not only educational but a beautiful place to visit and learn of the lifestyle of the San Juan Islands. A great way to make new friends and broaden your educational horizons.

Carolyn from Dousman, WI Number of programs attended: 9
Date attended: 04/18/15 - 04/24/15
Want to step back in time to a simpler lifestyle and meet musicians, scientists, historians, artists, and goat farmers(!)? A visit to the San Juan Islands provides this and more. I loved the relaxing pace and varied activities.

Karen from Concord, CA Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 04/18/15 - 04/24/15
I'll be back!

Penny from Novato, CA Number of programs attended: 2

There is no way that anyone could possibly see and learn about life on an island dependent upon a Ferry system and the kindness of neighbors to match the Three San Juan Island Hopping itinerary of Road Scholar. The weather, forest landscape and remoteness shape daily life on the Islands. In a week you will feel like an islander. Every view from the outside deck of the Ferry is breath taking with snow capped mountains, forest covered cliffs and the possibility of seeing resident Orca whale pods swimming nearby. Penny Hansen

Ann from Eugene, OR Number of programs attended: 2

Susan from Half Moon Bay, CA Number of programs attended: 2

The Island Hopping Tour introduced me to the beauty and diversity of the San Juan Islands. Each day was filled with new experiences as well as new vistas. It was terrific opportunity to learn about another treasure in our amazing country.

This is an outstanding adventure in a gorgeous environment. Kevin, Keith, Angie, Robin and Angie(chef) were exceptionally talented and in keeping the experience interesting and exciting. Thanks to them, perfect weather & a marvelous group of travelers we truly enjoyed this program.

Patricia from El Paso, TX Number of programs attended: 1

This program exceeded my expectations. If you love the sea, northern forests, eating healthy, and learning about the ways of life on these islands from several centuries up to the present day, from teachers who can impart their love and unique knowledge of this area, this program is for you.

William from Lexington, MA Number of programs attended: 16
Date attended: 06/21/14 - 06/27/14
Island life is different from mainland life, and this program gives you a good taste of that. Varied speakers and day trips between islands make it an enjoyable experience.

Benita from San Diego, CA Number of programs attended: 4
Date attended: 05/03/14 - 05/09/14
This trip was very scenic and informative. The hotel, the meals, the group leader, all the speakers, and the field trips exceeded my expectations. It was so informative to see how residents were protective of their islands. And hearing from people who started businesses there and the historic sites was very interesting. The only down side was rain on most days.

Jean from Milwaukee, WI Number of programs attended: 3
Date attended: 05/03/14 - 05/09/14
If you go to the San Juan Islands off season, know that stores and shops close early by 4 or 5pm and some stores and restaurants are closed on some weeknights. Dress in layers and bring a windbreaker or rain jacket/umbrella, be ready for sun or rain.
