Road Scholar
Program #12156RJ
5 Days | 4 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Easy
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

16 in program. 3/10/14 - 3/14/14 Palma & Mitch from SC Our first Road Scholar trip and it was WONDERFUL. The classes were very interesting and informative. I am a fan of Forensic Shows so it was awesome to see and hear the "real story" My husband went because I was a fan but he loved it and was glad that he went. Nathan, our tour guide, was great and kept us entertained on the bus while pointing out the sights. The hotel was in walking distance of shows and attractions. The buffet at the hotel was great and the staff was very friendly. The food at UNLV was great, too. Salads and fresh fruit not the food we were used to at college. I would highly recommend this trip!

This was a fabulous program and real value for the money. Harrah’s is an older strip hotel, but it is right in the center of all the activity in Las Vegas and you can walk anywhere. The food buffets at Harrah’s were excellent and the cafeteria/commons food at the UNLV was outstanding. This high quality and varied food choices for student living made me want to return to college days. The speakers were all professional and interesting; My favorite speaker was Dr. Ed, the forensic dentist. The fingerprinting expert, Jason, also told some interesting stories. I thought the final day visit to the Detention Center was sensitive and well done. Nathan, our group leader, was excellent and added local color with early morning tours of the city and he shared a lot of history of his 50 years of Las Vegas living. I've done a lot of Road Scholar trips ranging from easy to challenging activity levels and various subjects, so in comparison, I can say: Over all, this program was extremely well done with great monetary value.

We couldn't have enjoyed this trip more. Nathan really was a great group leader. The hotel was centrally located for easy exploring in the evening. Lectures were great, food was great. Our first Road Scholar trip will not be our last.

The Forensics program was excellent: the speakers, subject matter, Nathan tour director, Greg bus driver, Harrah's hotel, good food, free time, well organized.

Barbara from Mount Juliet, TN Number of programs attended: 5

My husband and I enjoyed this program very much. Tour leader, Nathan, was great as well as all the speakers. The "Bodies" exhibit we went to see at the Pyramid was excellent. Food and Harrah's were top notch. I would have liked there to have been more hands-on to the program such as the picture above which we didn't do. Also, I would have liked the dog handler, who was a wonderful speaker, to have put his dog through some exercises for us. Overall, a very good program. This was our 6th venture with Elderhostel/Road Scholar. Barbara from Tennessee

This was a great experience. The presentations were so interesting and well done. There was good food, time to see Las Vegas and so much to learn. It was our first Road Scholar trip but it won't be our last.

The Forensic Investigation program in Las Vegas was much more comprehensive then i had expected. The speakers were very professional, experienced, answered questions throughly and told interesting stories. Food was good and our program leader was great, in that he has lived in Las Vegas his whole life and had many good stories and took us on a short sightseeing tour each day, which was fun and informative for those who had been there many times or people who had never been to Las Vegas before. I really liked learning about fingerprinting details, and the fantastic dog trained to detect thousands of chemical combinations that make explosives, but all the speakers were experts and we informative.

The Crime Scene Forensics program is an outstanding value. I would recommend this to anyone interested in this subject. Television series have skewed what CSI is all about. This program helps with understanding the real world of CSI.

Very informative. October weather in Las Vegas is very enjoyable. Future registrants are advised that "free evenings" does not include the final dinner together on Thursday

Makes you appreciate all the manpower, technology, time, details, and teamwork it takes to catch a criminal. Well worthwhile!

If you watch CSI, Law and Order, etc., it's a fun way to learn about what they do right and what is just literary license and eye candy.

Marie from Tucson, AZ Number of programs attended: 11

If you watch those crime programs on TV, you will enjoy this opportunity to hear what is fact or myth. Professionals in the field share their expertise . A lot of time in the classroom. Not much physical activity but hotel has gym (for a fee). Hotel is centrally located for walks to other hotel/casinos if you desire some walking.

I am just wrapping up my last day in this program and have deemed it the best R.S. program I've ever attended. The quality of the lectures is exemplary and the enthusiasm of the experts in their chosen fields is contagious. I highly recommend this program. You'll get overall tours of Las Vegas in addition to the given subject matter. I hate to see this end!!!
