This Road Scholar program was one which would appeal to those wishing to learn about other cultures and the history of other religions. A broad range of subject matter other than the description in the catalog was explored. You will visit Roman Catholic churches and shrines, a Roman Catholic museum, and have the opportunity to purchase Roman Catholic ephemera and relics. There also was a focus on the culture Pueblo Indians. In addition, the geography of the high desert of New Mexico was experienced.

The program was informative and exciting. If you have never been to New Mexico, it is a beautiful state and different from anywhere else in the U.S. Although there were mostly Jewish people on the trip, there were several non-Jews as well and they enjoyed the trip very much,

Fascinating! This trip opened up whole worlds of the "American experience" that I knew nothing about before. Definitely offers new ways to look at the history of North America and the US.

I have to admit that we picked this program mainly on time and location and the interest in exploring the Road Scholar program for the first time. Having no knowledge of Jewish practice or traditions left me feeling like I was drinking out of a fire hose. Not only was there tremendous information on Jewish culture but the exploration of the historic journey of Sephardic Jews having to convert to Catholicism during the Inquisition leading to migration and settling in New Mexico was captivating and well presented in both lecture, discussion and interaction with descendants. The topic drew interesting engaged people who all came away enriched.

The crypto Jew program was wonderful for those of us with interest in the subject with one caveat. If you have taken the Tale of Two Cities Road Scholar program be prepared to repeat at least one day of that program

This was a wonderful immersion in the plight of Jews trapped by the Inquisition, which followed many who escaped to the New World, with subsequent generations of conversos coming to New Mexico, the epicenter of conversos and crypto-Jews. Excellent lectures by Norma Libman supplied the background and a morning spent with a former converso gave the practical and emotional aspects of discovering a Jewish ancestry and following through to actual conversion.

One of the best informative programs my wife and I have been on with probably the best guide and leader we have been with on our many, many years of touring.

Sometimes I enroll in a program to fill a particular time slot, as was the case with this one. It turned into one of the best programs I have ever taken. It really opened my eyes and my mind with regard to the Jewish communities in the New World and how and when they originated. The history of the crypto/converso Jews is a fascinating one and one which has been pretty much ignored in the teaching of history in our classrooms. I highly recommend this program to anyone interested in filling in the blanks in their knowledge of history.

I am just home from the Nov 3-8 program in New Mexico on Converso Jews. It was stimulating, excellent, and wonderful experience. I want to "spread" my learning. Our leaders were informative and interesting. I also had a lot of fun

The breadth and depth of converso history in New Mexico is absolutely amazing. A historical lesson and story of human endurance many more people should learn.

I just attended the Road Scholar program in New Mexico on the Converso/Crypto Jews of NM. It was an excellent program. It was an in depth course on the Conversos and was extremely enlightening. The main lecturer, Norma, was outstanding, and full of facts and information on the subject. I highly recommend this program.

A wonderful experience and program. I highly recommend this program for anyone interested in learning about a part of Jewish history that is often untold in enough detail, understanding and depth. I enjoyed every moment of this program.

Besides finding out about Jews forcibly converted to Christianity, you will learn about how the Spanish and their Catholic Church colonized the New World. If you never experienced high-desert, come to New Mexico and experience it. Road Scholar will keep you very busy and entertained.
