Never knew how George Washington was so instrumental in early transportation issues and, hence, will read more about him. Was not so aware that the Irish laborers were talented and exploited. The lectures made me more aware that these early pioneers/settlers thought of their economics and land way before the unification issue of the nation. Makes sense.

I highly recommend this program to anyone who is interested in beautiful scenery, moderate walking, American history and spending time at a relaxing conference center. The staff and the participants were very affable. Kathy - New York

My wife and I were a bit disappointed with this program. We were excited about the small group experience only to find out that we were sharing facilities/information/transportation with a cycling group! This wasn't moderately challenging at all, walking was limited. The facilities were spartan, but clean. If you are over 6 feet tall as I am, be prepared to wrestle with the sheets and mattress pad on a small bed! Food was simple, got a bit boring in the same venue, same room, but was very adequate. I felt the educational portion was a bit haphazard, although the lecturers were experts in their field, the dissmenination was lacking.

George from Ridge, MD Number of programs attended: 3 Date attended: 9/28/14-10/14 The program lived up to my expectations. We averaged walking, I would estimate, between 3-4 miles per day and there was usually some time to do some walking on our own. The group ranged in age and everyone could walk at their own pace. The accommodations were fine and program staff and volunteers were friendly and helpful. And meeting and getting to know other participants was one of the highlights. Shepherd Springs is a great location for walking and biking programs and I look forward to participating in another of the several Road Scholar programs offered there

This trip was very educational and extremely informative about an area of our beautiful country which holds many historical treasures. The Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River, Potomac River, the Great Falls along with the C & O Canal offer some of the most gorgeous views in the country. The lectures, leaders and staff at Shepherds Spring were professional and accommodating. Our fellow participants were the best part of the trip!

A very welcoming venue in beautiful surroundings. Attention given to vegetarian diet. Very friendly and helpful staff.
