This is the perfect program for someone wanting to know more about Thomas Merton. It matters nothing if you know a little or a lot about Merton, this program will fill any empty spots. The Merton Center at Bellarmine and the field trips make for a great experience.

This was my first program. I enjoyed the lectures, the field trips and the vast knowledge that was shared with us! The small size of the group allowed us to get to know each other. Easy activity level. Going to Gethsemani Monastery was very interesting.

This was such a great program. The presenters were top notch! Being at the Merton Center and Gethsemane (although briefly) added to this superb program. If you know nothing about Merton or have done a little or a lot of reading his works, I think it would be equally enjoyed. In our group, we had quite a range of Merton previous knowledge and seemed all enjoyed. Learning from the other participants was another highlight!

I highly recommend my recent Road Scholar trip, A Week With Merton! Although it is designated 'easy' for physical activity, it was a high adventure trip in learning and 'seeing'! For me it was an invitation to explore the life and writings of this most inspiring and prolific spiritual author through stimulating lectures presented by learned scholars. Aside from the academic excellence provided, there were encounters with those who had known Merton personally as mentor and/or as Master of Students or of Novices at the Cistercian Abbey of Gethsemani. We visited the Abbey, participated in one of the Daily offices (Nones) with the monks, visited Merton's gravesite, etc. On the free afternoon, some of us took a 'Louisville City Taste/ sight-seeing tour (CityTasteTours.com), which was fantastic, especially for someone like me who had never sampled the culinary wonders of Kentucky! There were many other enjoyable trips, talks and highlights, such as an evening concert of gorgeous, indigenous Dulcimer music, which I have not mentioned!

Bringing sensitivity and a genuine love of Merton to the table, Dr. Paul Pearson made this entire program an inspiring and intellectually challenging event. Other speakers and a very moving trip to Gethsemeni rounded out a wonderful week.

This is a gem of a program for anyone who wants to delve deeper into Thomas Merton's life, spirituality, and activism. As someone who has been drawn to his writings for more than 30 years, I found the program more than met my hopes and expectations. I'll never forget it.

The week spent studying Thomas Merton was time well spent. We had quality time with several of his contemporaries (monks as well as lay people) and I learned a great deal about Merton and the times he lived in. The participants were diverse and interesting as well. I recommend the program to anyone interested in spiritual life, Thomas Merton, Trappist life, or the Abbey of Gethsemani.

A week with Thomas Merton is an exceptional experience. Not only do you learn about his life and his writings, you get to see the many artifacts at the Thomas Merton Center at Bellarmine University as well as visit the monastery and other important sites nearby. This is a well-organized, inspirational, and educational experience for people of all faiths.
