The White Villages was a unique view of rural Spain, not the typical tourist attractions, although we did see the mosque/cathedral on a trip to Cordoba. We could interact with local people since our guide, Fran, had spent his summers in the white villages with his grandmother and seemed to know practically everybody! From a Spanish cooking class to an olive oil mill to bull raising ranch and dressage performances to dazzling architecture and historical forts, this trip provided a glimpse of the past interwoven with vibrant daily life. This is a beautiful and surprising part of Spain, with a rich historical and aesthetic heritage and lots of unusual opportunities.

The White Villages program was delightful and beautiful. I would highly recommend this program.

The white villages are well worth visiting - beautiful, a bit off the beaten tourist track, dripping with history, and low key. The program included excellent and copious food and wine. The pace was ideal with plenty of free time and the right amount of organized activities that included many things that would be missed in independent travel. We benefitted from having a very small group, which I think is typical for this program. The tour guide was attentive, knowledgeable, and entertaining. There was a great deal of laughter.

This is the first time I had participated in any type of group travel and it exceeded any expectations. The history and culture of the small villages was something I would never had experienced outside of this program. Our guide Francisco was attentive, warm, funny and knowledgeable. The program is coded as active, and we certainly walked and climbed extensively on most days. Fortunately, delicious meals/wine in local establishments was our reward on a daily basis! The accommodations were fine and there was a good balanced between structured and unstructured time. Highly recommend!

The White Villages of Andalusia is a special trip. Our guide, Francisco, shared his enthusiasm for his country and made the trip fun for all of us. Each day was a new adventure. It was great to try all the different Spanish foods and wines. Our hotels were lovely and comfortable. The small group made it seem like we were traveling with friends, and by the end of the trip, we really were friends! We walked on cobblestone streets and climbed a lot of hills and steps, but we also enjoyed a Spanish siesta on some days.

We have enjoyed visiting Spain many times and the tour of the White Villages added a a treasure trove of new memories. Very well lead, good food, beautiful scenery and so much to learn and do--highly rated in our book.

I always knew that Spain had brought precious metals and gems from the New World. It was surprise to learn that mahogany hard wood was also imported from Cuba and used in the intricate church carvings. To me, Road Scholar is about experiences and surprises that can teach.

I took this trip in April and it was wonderful. Our guide, Francisco, was great - knowledgeable, well organized, friendly, fun, and attentive to the needs of everyone in the group. The schedule was busy, but not frantic and the selection of activities was a good balance between walking, traveling in the bus, visiting "official" tourist attractions and exploring areas off the beaten track. As a solo traveler, I appreciated the fact that there were several other singles, although the group as a whole was so friendly that I never felt uncomfortably alone. I combined this trip with Independent Barcelona, the week before, and I found the two trips worked beautifully together for my first trip to Spain.

The amount of history of the Hidden White Villages of Andalucia is staggering. Reading about the history is one thing. Seeing the area and having knowledgeable people talk about it and answer questions is quite another. This was our first guided tour of any kind. It far exceeded our expectations.
