I have considered doing a birding program previously but felt that although I recognize quite a number of birds that I would feel inadequate compared with others in the program. This DID NOT happen! In fact those who had done birding all over the world were quite helpful and very interesting.

I was extremely disappointed in this program. The accommodations were great and the birding sites could have been wonderful had we arrived early enough to find the birds. How often did we hear "You should have been here an hour ago." There was far too much time spent in the van and with that many participants stuffed in a van, you just can't bird without getting out! Our guide, though a very nice lady, was not as good at identification as one would expect from someone getting paid to lead a bird tour. She made too many blatant mistakes in judgment for a bird tour leader. I would not recommend this experience.

Road Scholar's response:
Thank you for your comments. We apologize that this program did not meet your expectations. Please know that we take all comments into consideration in order to improve future dates of our programs.

This is a trip I would recommend to birders of all levels. The accommodations were very nice and we visited a good number and variety of birding spots. Our guide Cindy - who is local to the area - was friendly and knowledgeable. She treated us like we were welcome guests in her "home" of south Florida.

I had a great time on this program. The people and the leader were all very friendly and interesting. I saw so many new birds and wonderful, wildlife places in Florida.

This was a wonderful program. Although I've been to Florida many times, Cindy showed us a Florida I had never seen. In addition to the old familiar birding sites, she knew other spots, which was wonderful. Good birds, good company, good food. Couldn't have been better.

Saw so many different and colorful birds and became acquainted with the beauty and diversity of the Everglades. Our leader, Cindy Hackney, worked tirelessly to show us every bird we had on our Bucket List. It is my favorite program so far.

The birding experience in the Florida Everglades was fantastic!

A fascinating Experience for the Active & Serious Birder.

David from East Canton, OH Number of programs attended: 5

This program provided a wonderful introduction to the birds of Florida's natural world. The instructor knows her subject matter and just as importantly, how to motivate the participants to share her enthusiasm for the sights and sounds around us.

Phil from Soquel, CA Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 02/02/14 - 02/07/14
Phil - California; 2/2/14-2/7/14 This was my first Road Scholar Program and the first time I have birded in South Florida. Even though I have birded for decades I added 34 new species to my life list! It was not unusual to be within a few feet of a bird which made seeing details incredible. I enjoyed the company of the participants ... all were engaging and easy to get along with. Cindy and Liz were fabulous. Their contacts allowed for local birding experts to join us on 4 of the 5 days. Nothing negative to say about the whole experience. I plan to attend many more Road Scholar trips in the future.

Lyn from New Port Richey, FL Number of programs attended: 7
Date attended: 02/02/14 - 02/07/14
Four new life birds - Wow! - and lots of old bird friends. Our leaders were knowledgeable, efficient, caring of the group, and fun to be with. I especially liked learning more about the everglades and cypress swamp ecosystems. The accommodations were very comfortable and included a sitting area, plus mini kitchenette. We were well fed with a pretty good breakfast at the hotel, great picnic lunch during the day, and restaurants at night. Porky's had great catfish and even Cracker Barrel had a good trout dinner.

Jean from Bridgton, ME Number of programs attended: 14

The birding was great, and learning about SW Florida's swamp ecosystems was an unexpected plus.
