The trip to Northern France was my first visit to that country and my first Road Scholar trip. I was so happy to experience the many places I'd previously read about, heard about, or seen in movies. Robert was an excellent guide, and it was very enjoyable to share the excitement of Paris, the emotions at the Normandy beaches, and the beautiful countryside and towns with fellow travelers. I can't imagine a better introduction to Paris or France.

I've been to several countries with different tour groups - this was my first Road Scholar trip and it was, by far, the best. To experience the feeling of a place is more than hearing about its architecture or recounting historical fact - Thomas' reading at the site of Jeanne d'Arc's martyrdom, his story of Harold and the Bayeux snow globe and sharing the interview with veterans - this gave the trip life! Thomas' love of travel and place infused the trip with meaning. Road Scholar is my choice from now on.

Pam from NY Number of programs attended 0 Date attended 10/22/15-10/30/15 Great tour! Our guide, Thomas, was exceptional and the group a lot of fun. All of the additional guides were knowable in their sharing all their passion for the Normandy area. RS is the way to go.

This was an wonderful introduction for me to Road Scholar Tours. Our group leader and the tour guides who were with us along the way were knowledgeable, professional and personable. Their love of what they do was obvious and welcome. I can't wait to book another tour with RS. I learned so much during this trip and spent time with really wonderful people. Bonne journee.

An excellent introduction to Paris and Normandy, it made me want to return and explore both more.

Tracy from Pelham, MA Number of programs attended: 0

The quality of the group leader and the guides on this trip were exceptional. They helped us discover not only the principal sites of Paris and Normandy, but also provided us with historical and cultural perspectives that no guidebooks could offer.

I have just returned from France (10/1/15-10/9/15) and had a wonderful time. Every day was an adventure. The guide, Robert, was excellent and our special guide for Normandy, Jean Pierre, was exceptional. I can not say enough about the program. As a US citizen I was so touched by the admiration the people of Normandy have for the WWII Liberators. Unbelievable trip. I will never forget it. PS: The people in my group were pretty special, too!

This Paris and Normandy tour provides an excellent introduction to many of Paris' iconic sites and an excellent tour of Normandy including the D day tour including the American Military cemetery, Pont Huc and Omaha Beach! Not to be missed were Mont St Michel and the Bayeux tapestry, and the cities of Rouen and Honfleur. Our multilingual tour guide, a PhD candidate at Cambridge was personable, well organized and communicated well. Our group of 24 was interesting and pleasant and most meals and accommodations were excellent. Would recommend highly as an introduction to Paris (including Versailles) and Normandy but would have wanted it slightly longer.

The Best of Northern France: Paris and Normandy is a fast paced, active, educational experience that effectively combines history, art, architecture, food and culture in vastly different settings: busy, dynamic urban (Paris), quiet historic villages, green, bucolic countryside and blustery, windswept cliffs of Normandy. Comfortable shoes are essential for long walks on cobblestone streets, navigating the metro, the heights of Montmartre and Mont St Michel. From the fabulous Musee d’Orsay to the simplicity and spiritual beauty of Giverny, this Road Scholar program has it all (including a fabulous leader, Robert Andre’ Harvey).

You're not going to see a lot in Paris, but the Normandy content is very good, though more time could be spent at some sites. Be prepared for lots of strenuous stair-climbing, especially at Mont St. Michel!

A wonderful, fast-paced survey of sections of Paris and the highlights of Normandy, led smoothly and charmingly by Robert Andre Harvey. Lace up your walking shoes to see art, history, World Heritage sites, cathedrals and farms. Great trip!

What a wonderful trip and guide. Robert made us feel a part of France. Normandy was very moving. Especially the ceremony our group did with a laying of a wreath, national anthem done with church bells and taps. Everything we did and saw was so much more then I expected. Can't wait to do my next Road Scholar trip to France, hopefully with Robert as a guide again!

Anthony from Williston, VT Number of programs attended: 2

It felt like I was being shown around Paris by a knowledgeable friend rather than a check off the box tour. Yet I cannot think of a thing we missed. Helping us shape our free time really individualized the experience. Normandy was very moving. I will never forget the four creperes Robert found for us in Normandy.

Jacqueline from Adams, MA Number of programs attended: 2

This is a fantastic trip. I would urge anyone who has not been to Paris and Normandy ( or even those who have) to consider it.

Nancylou from Wilmette, IL Number of programs attended: 2

The main reason I went on this tour was to see Normandy especially during this anniversary year. The Normandy tour was fantastic. Our guide was so knowledgeable. He shared an array of facts, pictures and personal experiences with the group which gave us a greater understanding of the events. Visiting the classic highlights of Paris was lovely, however, I was blown away by seeing the less famous parts of Paris that our group leader showed us.
Fabulous tour.

This is an excellent program with much diversity. It cuts across many interests such as history, architecture and religion. Paris is beautiful and a place all should experience. Normandy is as rural as Paris is urban and both provide a very interesting experience.

This trip was my first to France and first with Road Scholar. It was truly the most wonderful event in my adult life. I learned so much from physically being in so many important places, and from Bill Snowden, our very competent, skilled, fun, and smart leader. All in all an exhilarating, intelligent and exciting travel experience.

Thomas from Flushing, MI Number of programs attended: 1

This program was perfect for first time travelers to France. Bill Snowden, our leader was perfect for this tour. Articulate, great sense of humor and very easy to be with. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wants to visit Paris and Normandy.

Arthur from Tawas City, MI Number of programs attended: 1

This was our first trip with Road Scholar. It was extra ordinary. Thinking back on the sites, history, professionalism, of Bill Snowden, etc, made this a life time experience. I wish I had more life left to think about all we saw. Patricia I'm waiting for a call.

Ginny from Marietta, GA Number of programs attended: 1

A marvelous trip! Every moment was a new adventure for me. I would highly recommend this trip. Bill Snowden, our group leader, was knowledgeable, welcoming and accommodating. My horizons were expanded, and the world looks even more amazing to me after this trip.

Nancy from Albemarle, NC Number of programs attended: 1

I was very impressed with the attention to detail provided by everyone associated with the Road Scholar program. Bill Snowden was wonderful and took special care with each person on the trip. I agree with others that the only negative was the Streets Hotel in Paris - very dark and a bit creepy. I enjoyed everything we did but especially the Sunday market, Honfleur, and Omaha Beach.

Gail from Rockledge, FL Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 10/09/14 - 10/17/14
Fabulous trip with a great leader and local guides. It's hard to pick a highlight: Monet's gardens, Omaha Beach, Orsay Museum, and many more. What really impressed me was the way Road Scholar handled the situation after my flight was cancelled at 10PM on the night before departure. They returned my call within 10 minutes and had me booked on a new flight in less than 30 minutes. I will never travel with any other company!! My one concern is the hotel in Paris: I feel it is not safe for seniors: the hallways are dark and the tub has high sides- difficult to get in and out of. I highly recommend this trip as an introduction to France.

Ann from La Plata, MD Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 10/09/14 - 10/17/14
Great trip, with a fantastic guide, Bill Snowden. All hotels very nice with exception of first one in Paris, Streets Hotel. Dark, dreadful colors and terrible smell. Other than that, a great time. Bill made the trip educational and entertaining.

The Best of Northern France, Paris and Normandy was the trip of a lifetime. Highly recommend!

Dorothy from Brooklyn, NY Number of programs attended: 1

A good program shared with interesting folks. When the weather changed, our Fearless Leader Libby adjusted the program. But we missed nothing on the schedule. I was happy we decided to arrive 3 days early and just walk around Paris on our own. Lazy, fun time, followed by structure and great adventures with the group.

Carol from Chicago, IL Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 10/03/14 - 10/11/14
A good introduction to Paris for first time visitors, not enough time in Paris perhaps, but a good combination for a week tour. I would recommend staying on a day or two after the tour to do some poking about and explore more dining options outside a group.

Ann from West Hartford, CT Number of programs attended: 18

If you want to go to Paris and also visit Normandy, this program offers an excellent opportunity to see and learn about these locations.

Ronald from Grand Haven, MI Number of programs attended: 1

I found the Best of Northern France:Paris and Normandy Tour an excellent way of learning about Parisian history and culture. Visiting the actual site of where the invasion began, the logistics involved in carrying out the mission and the cost of human sacrifices that were made will give you a new perspective on what was involved.

Linda from Lewiston, ME Number of programs attended: 1

This was a wonderful trip. I especially enjoyed visiting the beautiful churches in Paris, Rouen and Honfleur and listening to Ange Laporte's superb narrative. The hotels and meals were excellent.

Ann from Madison, WI Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 09/04/14 - 09/12/14
Recently returned from this trip and still recovering from jet lag, I also want to echo what a great experience this was. Seeing Normandy and having an in depth presentation of DDay was my highlight, but I also want to compliment our guide Ange Laporte on a job well done. His extensive knowledge in a number of topics and sense of humor were very much appreciated. There is a lot of walking on cobblestones on this trip so it's best to be in good shape.

Linda from Saint Paul, MN Number of programs attended: 1

This was a delightful experience. Every bit of it was interesting to me. Personal highlights included visiting the Sunday market in Paris, Mont St. Michel, and Monet's gardens in Giverny.

Jeanne from Plymouth, MA Number of programs attended: 1

If seeing Normandy and Omaha Beach is one of your travel goals, the Road Scholar experience cannot be matched.

Cheryl from Maplewood, MN Number of programs attended: 2

Fabulous trip with a wonderful itinerary! The D-Day beaches were definitely a highlight including the visit to the American Cemetery. But all aspects of the trip were great including Mont St. Michel and the various Paris excursions. Robert Andre Harvey was a great leader--informative and a great sense of humor. Included meals were terrific. People on the trip were great too. Can't think of anything I would change on this trip!

Bernardine from Durham, NC Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 04/10/14 - 04/18/14
The whole trip was amazing. Our group leader, Robert Andre Harvey, was wonderful. All the cities, Paris, Giverny, Roeun, Bayeaux, Honfleur, Versailles held something of interest. I was very impressed with Jean Philippe, our guide through Normandy and Omaha Beach. He obviously cares so much about the history of D-Day and we were greatful he imparted so much of his knowledge to us. I was honored, as a veteran, to participate in a wreath laying ceremony at the Normandy American Cemetery. Everything about this trip is great!!
