Program #3734RJ
10 Days | 9 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Interesting program, learned a lot about Canadian history and politics. Doug is an outstanding leader!

This was an interesting tour. I learned some facts about Canadian history I hadn't known. The buildings we toured such as parliament, museums and churches were as interesting for their architecture as for their contents. We also saw how maple syrup was processed and took walking tours in the cities. The meals were good and my gluten free diet was accommodated without any problems.

Excellent program. As Canadians we learned a great deal about both Canada and the USA as I am sure did the Americans. For me the highlight was the organ recital and demonstration, even though I am someone who cannot read music and plays no instrument. Highly recommend it.

I was extremely impressed with the expertise of our tour guides and their vast store of knowledge on Canadian history. I learned far more than I might have expected. Our group leader, Evan Price was a terrific "shepherd"; kept us moving and together, was always very calm and had a terrific sense of humor. It is hard to pick out any one aspect of the trip that was better than another. This was my first Road Scholar experience, but it won't be the last.

Lauren from Sarasota, FL Number of programs attended: 11

These 3 Canadian cities provide a good contrast in lifestyles and history. There is a good amount of walking, stair climbing and sitting in lectures on history and politics. The instructors, docents and step-on guides were very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about their subject matter. Our tour leader, Evan Price, kept on top of all the logistics and maintained a great sense of wry humor. We were allowed to leave the group to rest or tour elsewhere on our own, as long as we let him know. High points of interest: Ottawa: Beaver tails in Byward market, the Rideau canal ride, Native Indian display of totem poles in the Museum of Civilization. Montreal: the Sucrecie in Rigaud, concert in Notre Dame by organist Pierre Grandmaison, the underground city Quebec: Trois Rivieres as a cultural gem, wandering in the lower city, walking the Promenade des Gouverneurs on the Plaines of Abraham.

For the most part, traveling in Canada is pretty similar to traveling to various states in the US ... but all of a sudden, you're reminded that this is a different country with a different history and two official languages. Canada's diversity was a surprise. There were more people of Asian and African origins than I expected, and the degree of their evident comfort in being accepted as ordinary Canadians was good to see. And, of course, Quebec province is a good place to brush up on using French.

I really enjoyed the Canadian cities we visited. The museums and lectures were very informative and interesting. The sugar shack and entertainment there was especially fun. We had a great group of people! Our guide was great! The listening devices were very useful during our guided trips.

The high quality of this program makes it a must see. We were greatly impressed with Canada and have a greater knowledge of the issues they face now and in the past. When asked about this trip we both say it was FANTASTIC.

Joe from Naperville, IL Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 09/23/13 - 10/02/13
The tour was astounding. I feel like I really got into the "fabric" of what makes each city and the country of Canada tick. I learned a lot, saw a lot and ate a lot. The visit changed my overall perception of Canada and I feel I absorbed a tremendous amount of information regarding its history and current events shaping the nation today. This is another one off my bucket list and I thank Road Scholar for enhancing my experience.
