The Superstitions are a beautiful setting for this hiking program! The weather in late February was perfect for hiking, cool nights but generally clear and warmish days. I especially enjoyed going up to Apache Lake resort. The hikes we took out of there and the setting at the resort were very special. This is a great program for you if you are fit and want to see some extraordinary scenery. Bring well broken-in, over the ankle boots, a day pack with a hip belt to support the weight of the 2+ liters of water you will need each day and water bottles or better yet, a 2 liter hydration reservoir so you can sip while still moving. If you re big eater like me, I suggest you pack enough of your favorite energy/protein bars to carry 1-2 a day to snack on and supplement the bag lunches provided. The guides do a great job explaining the natural and cultural history along the way. This program left me wanting a "Superstition II" program to explore all the tantalizing places I could see from high points each day!

There were 15 in our group - a great group (all of them, guides included). It was challenging. I've been a regular hiker for 10 years, but have a few unhealthy habits, and it was harder than anticipated (especially on my joints). Out of our group, 2 people only did 2 of the hikes, and 2 others missed 1 of the hikes. That means 11/15 did all the hikes. On one of the hikes, I almost fell twice, and 3 others fell to the ground. I never felt in danger, and no one was significantly injured. The superstition mountains are scenically great, and I think equivalent in beauty to the Sedona area. I do recommend it, but it's 30 - 35 miles in 5 days, frequently on quite rocky and uneven ground.

This program was listed as CHALLENGING and it was for me. I could do it, and I am thrilled that I did it, but it was challenging. I should confess that I am not a hiker. I have only hiked once before, on another Road Scholar program. But I have walked an hour a day five days a week for 25 years and I work out with a personal trainer once a week and I am healthy and trim at 63 years of age. So if your fitness level is similar to mine, I think you can do this program too. So I say to you, it's a wonderful program and I recommend it.

This is a great trip for those interested in challenging hikes over mountain terrain in the desert Southwest. The guides are experienced and knowledgeable; they made the trip fun and interesting.

We enjoyed the hikes, scenery, and company. The hikes were challenging and the leadership was knowledgeable about the fauna, flora, and geology of the Superstition mountains.

If you are looking for a challenging hike, this is the one for you! It does require you to be in good shape, climbing and descending with good, heavy-duty boots that are broken-in.

If you're looking for challenging hikes and a possible get-away from cold northern climates during the winter, this is the trip for you! Do take the "challenging" label seriously! We had a great time.

Hiking in the Superstition Wilderness was the best Road Scholar trip I've ever taken. Beautiful, interesting, challenging, educational. I may do it again. It's inspired me to pick up my training and "hit the trails.", It was like Outward Bound for the elderly and I'm eager to repeat the experience.
