This was a very well-balanced trip with an exceptional group leader. Ireland is a fascinating country, its long history everywhere evident. We saw beautiful country and interesting towns and cities. If you've ever considered visiting Ireland, I would highly recommend this particular program.

Stuart from Syracuse, NY Number of programs attended: 1

This trip was exactly as advertised: a mix of organized, informational tours and events mixed with free time to explore and make your own way. Our tour guide was energetic and well versed in the area we were visiting. The lecturers were knowledgeable in their topic areas. The evening events were entertaining, as well as imparting a window into Irish culture. Our tour mates were by and large good company, friendly and enjoyable to spend time with. I would recommend the same tour to others without reservation.

What a great experience! I liked starting in the less-urban west and working our way through the middle of the country to Dublin. Our tour leader Stephen is charming, funny and friendly, but also very well organized and informed. His handouts about places we would visit were exceptional and also gave us plenty to think about even after our return home. Events like the kids' band performance, which included dance and storytelling, were very special. We got a real feel for the strength of the Irish tradition and how families are willing to commit their time and resources to preserve it. Our farm visit gave us insight into the changes which have become necessary to continue small family businesses, among them the practical necessity of a two-income household. The amount of free time gave those of us with age or physical challenges opportunities to relax and refresh. All in all it was a marvelous tour. Congratulations, Road Scholar!

Enchanting Ireland was just that-enchanting! Ireland will soften your heart if you are open to that happening. The land itself, the Irish people we met (with very few exceptions), and our tour guide, Stephen, were everything I could have hoped for and much more. We had a very good group of people as well. Stephen gave us as much of an immersion into Irish culture, history, geography, music, and literature as he could in our eight days of travel. I will have many happy memories of this trip and hope that at least some of us alumni will return to see those parts of the country we missed. If you don't have a travel partner, Road Scholar is the way to go. Why wait to go somewhere you've always wanted to visit just because no one else you know can or wants to go?

We had a very poor tour director. She was not organized and did not plan well. She was entertaining but did not do a good job of informing us about the places we would be visiting. She reeked of alcohol twice and was just did not have the skills and abilities needed for this job. It was very disappointing. Ireland was beautiful of course and we made the best of the situation.

Once I made the decision that 2015 would be the year I visited Ireland, I was both excited and nervous but as the time got closer the nervous part overtook the excited part..was I nuts? Traveling to Ireland alone to spend 10 days with strangers? When I got off the plane in Shannon, I think if I had the option to hop right on again, I would have taken it. And then.. there was our leader, Stephen Delaney, with a big smile, pointing out the coffee and ATM (my fight was the first one in and an hour early..so I didn't expect anyone). As the others in our group began to arrive, it was more like a reunion then a first meeting. And that's when I knew it was going to be a great time! The itinerary was perfect but all the unexpected things that happen made it even better...the choir practicing at St Patrick's, the music in the pub in Adare, the amazing Francis Bacon exhibit in Dublin, the food, the chocolate and all the wonderful conversations and laughs. And best of all..the people in the group!

It was a 10 day imersion in the culture of Ireland. As a city person (LA, Chicago) I appreceated the opportunity to experience a working farm, a small town Pub and the pace of country life.

My 70th birthday present to myself was a Road Scholar visit to Ireland. It's the best present ever. Not only was the trip impeccably organized, the people delightful, and every detail rich and memorable. But the added bonus was meeting a me I hadn't been in decades: waking up every morning filled with joyful anticipation of the day, energetic throughout the day, and eager to pub hop at night. Who is this woman? Thanks Road Scholar, you've brought back a me I thought I lost many years ago.

The town and country program was very worthwhile. We covered just enough territory so that we did not feel as though we spent our trip on a coach. The two towns selected (Adare and Ennistimon) were good choices for hotels and field trips. The Dublin hotel was very convenient to the center of the city. The meals were good, the company of fellow travelers was very pleasant and our group leader, Stephen was a highlight. He is a very knowledgeable, accommodating and entertaining. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. It's hard to find friendlier people than the Irish.

We had a fun group of people and an outstanding local guide! There was an interesting variety of activities. Food was great. Having some free time is nice. I learned a lot about Ireland, and discovered the land and the people were even more delightful than I expected. A perfect vacation.

Great tour, great accommodations, and lovely traveling companions. The sites were well chosen with excellent tour guides and with the most knowledgeable and best group leader, Sarah Clancy. All in all a very memorable, and thoroughly enjoyable, trip.

We had a really good time. The program leader (Meave) and the first bus driver (Mike) were great. The guides were first-rate. Bunratty is like St. Fagan’s in Wales, and while it seems like you have ‘too’ much time there at first, the amount of time you have there is just right. The amount of free time and meals on your own kept the program relaxed and gave you a chance to nap or cram in that extra sight to see as you see fit. There’s no mention in the program description that this is possible, but on our free day in Dublin, we took a day trip to Ballykissangel. That was a tip from Meave. We booked at the tourist office in town. I really liked being able to clear US passport control and customs in Dublin, which means we flew into a domestic terminal in the States, with our bags checked to our final destination. All in all, a VERY good trip.

Just the right mix of the small Irish villages, with farms and pub life, and the big cities of Galway and Dublin. So much Irish history to learn-- a great introduction.

I very much enjoyed spending three fourths of our trip in the west of Ireland where Irish culture and traditions are still prevalent. This was our first Road Scholar trip. It exceeded our expectations. Our group leader, instructors, and bus driver, Mike, were exceptional. We learned so much and are anxious to go back.

Elizabeth from Columbia, MD Number of programs attended: 17

This program is a laid-back one that focuses on rural Ireland mostly for six days and then 3 days in Dublin. Rather than expert lectures, you will have field trips (ex. Burren, dairy farm. thoroughbred horse breeding center ) and self-directed opportunities to learn about Ireland, such as the Kilmanham Gaol in Dublin). Professional tour guide (Orla) and bus driver (Mike) added greatly to the tour.

Excellent trip - a nice balance of country and city, colorful guides (and one colorful bus driver!) The Burren, cliffs and coast at Dingle were highlights for me, as was Dublin - keeping out of wars leaves a lot of history standing. The evidence of boom and bust, recently and even from the famine time, drew us into Irish history.

In memory of our trip to Limerick: There once was a group of Road Scholars, who exchanged, for Euros, their dollars. They spent some here, and they spent some there, from Shannon to home through Adare. Seriously, this was a very enjoyable trip. Joe O'Regan was a great trip leader, and we also enjoyed commentary from Mike the bus driver during our stay in Ennistymon. We particularly enjoyed the beauty of the Burren and the Dingle peninsula.

Bonnie from Lynnwood, WA Number of programs attended: 3

Being part Irish I have wanted to visit Ireland for a long time. I totally enjoyed seeing this beautiful country from the west to the east. The hotel accommodations were wonderful and the food was great. Our group leader, Orla was well prepared, informative and always willing to listen to comments or concerns. She made the trip go very smoothly. I would recommend this trip to anyone who wants to see Ireland.

Connie from Naperville, IL Number of programs attended: 2

I enjoyed the layers of geography, history, and the social pride of Ireland. From the geology and botany in the Burren, the drama of the Dingle Peninsula, to the lively language of Dublin it was a great learning experience. I found our guide, the castles, cows, horses, ice cream, fiddles, and even the potatoes enchanting.

What a delightful trip experiencing Ireland for the first time. It really gave me a wonderful perspective of Ireland from the beautiful western part to the bustling city of Dublin. Our group leader, Orla was fantastic!

Claire from Andover, MA Number of programs attended: 1

The program was good, we had an excellent guide, Stephen who really went above and beyond as this was the first time the program was done. All of the local guides were also great, informative but not too stuffy. Accommodations were fine, meals were good. There were parts of the program that I did not like, but not many. The dairy farm in Adare was informative, but I could have just gotten a bus talk. The local tour of Adare was too long given the size of Adare. I would have liked a bit more activity, but this was fine. We also had excellent weather which was an unexpected bonus.

If you want to experience Ireland, this is a great way to do it. The country is beautiful, the people are friendly and your guides are extremely well prepared. You get to experience the countryside and the city. Food and hotel accommodations were top notch everywhere we went. I want to move there!

This was our first Road Scholar trip and we can't wait to do another! I can't say enough good things about our host, Stephen. He made everything work SO smoothly and we looked forward to his daily jokes. The instructors were excellent and very entertaining. The trip was very well planned with just the right amount of activities and free time for us to decide what we wanted to see.

A wonderful experience. Hotels, food were top notch as were the various guides we encountered. Our main guide, Stephen greeted as each morning with special jokes and stories which made for a memorable encounter with a magnificent country. All in all a terrific trip!

I agree with Anna (I thought you were Ann). Stephen was a delight, funny, charming and knowledgeable, as were all the local guides. The country is beautiful. I would like to see more of Dublin; completely enjoyed the theater evening.

Great trip! My first Road Scholar tour and it couldn't have been better. Our guide Stephen was wonderful and Ireland is a beautiful country. In Dublin, I would recommend going to the prison. Fascinating history. Take the hop on and off bus from Marion Square.

Marcia from Vancouver, WA Number of programs attended: 8

An excellent overview of Ireland's history and culture...a peek into village life and the cities of Galway and Dublin. Hotels, food and coordination ..excellent and you will meet charming, humorous people. We liked the length of the program too..just long enough!
