EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

We had an exceptional trip considering the absence of touring the actual parks. Our group could not have been better. They were all so upbeat it was a pleasure to be with them despite some adverse turns of event (rockslide ahead on the trail, to name one). Road Scholar did a fantastic job giving us alternatives and Crazy Jug Point at Grand Canyon may have been the best view ever. I just signed up for a Costa Rica adventure on 3/10 because it sounds like a fun trip AND there is a canopy zip line tour. Can't beat that!

We just completed the program in the absence of the national parks. Despite this we were treated to stunning scenery, bar none. We even got to see the North Rim of the Grand Canyon - no one there but our group. The program providers were excellent in providing stunning options at the last minute under difficult circumstances. All the participants were lovely, interesting people. Hats off to Roads Scholar for putting together a stellar "Plan B" for us.

We just got back from the "No Nat'l Parks" trip to almost Zion, Bryce and Grand Canyons. Our experience was absolutely wonder-filled, adventurous and fun. Road Scholar and the staff with us put together such a great alternative trip and took us to places as beautiful as the Parks. We got to overlook canyons the surely rival Zion and Bryce. We stood on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon at Crazy Jug. We went to an excavated Anasazi village, Kodachrome Basin, and petrified trees. Some of us saw a California condor land close by, prong horn, and butterflies. Life gets good when we step out of the expected. Lisa Esty

This is an exciting, fun-filled, learning program. Discussing while seeing the geologic formations of Zion, Bryce and the Grand Canyon is wonderful. And the hiking is fantastic! The program leaders were outstanding! I really enjoyed the entire program.

James from Georgetown, MA Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 09/17/13 - 09/24/13
Our leaders were very knowledgeable also enthusiastic. Accommodations, meals, transportation and timing of events were very good. There was enough leeway in event timing to allow some flexibility for individual pursuits. The group, though large (42), was friendly and got along well. The locations were of course superb and luckily we had very good weather. In conclusion, learned a lot and had a great time.

Mary from Georgetown, MA Number of programs attended: 1

This was our first Road Scholar trip. I hope to be on many more. It exceeded expectations and included a wonderful group of people from all over. The leaders and even the bus driver were terrific.

My wife and I took our first Road Scholar experience visiting Zion, Bryce and Grand Canyon North Rim NPs. This was also our first guided vacation experience and we came away very satisfied with the whole experience. If you are looking for adventures with educational benefits Road Scholar should be considered. We felt our adventure vacation was worth the money, was of the right length of time, and a very enjoyable experience. The staff was professional, easy to interact with and very friendly. We will head out on another adventure with Rod Scholar soon, check 'em out, it will be worth your while.

Anja from Sebastopol, CA Number of programs attended: 1

Anja from Sebastopol, CA A great program with a good balance of travel, sightseeing, physical activity and some free time. Astounding sights in all 3 parks. Our guides, David and Mary Best, were outstanding. Highlights were walking the river at the Narrows in Zion and staying in the Lodge at the North Rim. All in all highly recommended - you won't regret it.

The locations are Beautiful, awe inspiring, and the informal 'lectures' help you appreciate what you see. The instructors are knowledgeable, patient, and answer any question. It is an experience of a lifetime to See and Understand the geologic forms.

Having just completed the Zion, Bryce, Grand Canyon trip organized by Northern Arizona University, I still feel awed by the experience. The 2 leaders, Jenn and Jeff were outstanding. They were extremely knowledgeable, organized, understanding of our diverse capabilities, smart and fun. They could not have been better in part because they have been involved in the overall planning of this trip for several years. We stayed in the National Park lodges giving us a more intimate appreciation of the environment. The accommodations were charming and the food was excellent. There is no way to describe the majesty of the scenery. The hikes and drives that we did enhanced the experience. The other participants were friendly, always on time, and very interesting. I have visited many parts of the world. This trip, thanks to Road Scholar, is at the top of my list of great places!

The scenery must be seen to fully appreciate our magnificent country. The guides helped us to relax and enjoy it knowledgably. The hotels and meals were all you could ask for. Take the mule ride at the Grand Canyon! They do the work and they're cute.

Judith from Weston, MA Number of programs attended: 3

Loved seeing the parks with spectacular formations and appreciated the billions of years it took to form/change them. Also appreciated seeing the desert, pine forests and meadows and views of mountains and canyons as we traversed parts of Utah and AZ. So different from New England! Our leaders and driver were wonderful. 6/04/13-6/13/13

This Road Scholar Program was a life-long dream of mine. I remember visiting the Grand Canyon probably 50+ years ago with my parents, and I had to go again when the program became available for my wife and myself. The instructors (Jeff and Joanna) complemented each other with their lively banter during the motor-coach trips between each Park. They both clearly explained how related, yet different, Zion and Bryce and the Grand Canyon Parks were to each other. I would recommend this trip to everyone.

One of the best programs I have attended. There was time to learn, explore on you own, and time to share learning with the group. Food better than expected and lodging just as good. The weather in late May was in the mid 80s and not a cloud during the trip. I would rate this program a 10.

Suzanne from Clinton Twp, MI Number of programs attended: 0

Wonderful! Beautiful country. Well paced and easy

Eugene from Sandy Hook, CT Number of programs attended: 3

This is an excellent program and a great chance to visit part of our National Parks system. Jeff and Johanna were both informative and enhanced my educational experience. Daily activities were fun, but the higher altitudes had to be taken into consideration for us sea level dwellers. I was glad the program park visits started low and ended high, gave me a good chance to adjust as we went along.

Kathleen from San Antonio, TX Number of programs attended: 8

Had a great time viewing Zion, Bryce and the North Rim. I am sure I could not have organized a better trip on my own and give hats off to Jeff and Joanna for their hard work at guiding the group.

Jeanne from Sandy Hook, CT Number of programs attended: 3

This was my first touring group travel . Was concerned about it but it was great. It was a well organized trip to 3 fascinating National Parks. The planning and accommodations and food were great and it was a fantastic buy. I highly recommend it. Jeanne L

Edith from Albany, NY Number of programs attended: 1

I chose this program, my first, Road Scholar tour, to see the National Parks. Zion, Bryce Canyon & north rim of Grand Canyon, and was able to do so more than superficially with two nights in each. The schedule, lodging and meals worked out really well and had some flexibility. I delight in learning about our earth and ecologies and did a lot of that on this Color Country tour. I was a solo traveler and was welcomed by fellow tourers and received friendly help from the three staff members. Am SO glad I was on this tour!

Mary Ann from Weimar, TX Number of programs attended: 18
Date attended: 05/12/13 - 05/19/13
We truly enjoyed this program. We were impressed by how helpful and informative both Jeff and Joanna were during the entire trip. They certainly exhibited patience with the differing needs and desires of all the individuals in the group. Seeing the 3 national parks was fantastic. The pacing of moving from one park to the next park was just right. I would encourage anyone planning to participate in this program to bring hiking poles. We found them very useful on several of the hikes. And we bought bandanas at the first opportunity. They are multipurpose tool in the varying climates of the 3 parks--great for cooling if the weather is hot, or warming ears and necks if the weather is cool.

Leslie from Montclair, NJ Number of programs attended: 1

Bravo! I'm still "enjoying" the trip. The scenery, of course, was spectacular, the arrangements were well-organized in every way, and the people (both staff and participants) were lovely. What a great vacation!

Roy from Sault S Marie, MI Number of programs attended: 2

Our Road Scholar trip to Zion, Bryce Canyon, and the Grand Canyon was just outstanding. The scenery, food, and accommodations were wonderful. We shared the adventure with 37 other fabulous people. The icing on the cake, however , were our guides and driver, Pat, Dan, and Dave. This trip was great, but may not have been as great without these warm, wonderful, and knowledgeable people- wonderful storys and humor as well. I hope we can do another trip with these fine people in the future.

Maryetta from Gary, IN Number of programs attended: 2

Go for it!!! Prepare to be amazed at the beauty of this area. This was our second Road Scholar adventure and we are definitely going to do more. Pat, Dan and Dave did a wonderful job. We learned from them and also from the other participants. Well done.

Francesca from Lexington, MA Number of programs attended: 2

This is a well planned, educational, and visually stunning trip. A collapsable walking stick, more than one small water bottle, a wide brim hat with tie strings, and good hiking shoes are real plusses for Zion, Bryce and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

Ron from Herndon, VA Number of programs attended: 1

I took this as my first Road Scholar trip 10/09/12 to 10/16/12 and was very pleased, as you can see by the many pictures I posted to this site. It was well run and our leader, Bruce Banker, from Northern Arizona University made it more enjoyable with his knowledge and his friendly manner. Trip offered two nights in each park, allowing us to more than just sample each park. As time permitted our leader added a few extra points of intrest along the way. I just recieved a catalog of "Expeditions", offered by a well known magazine, which offers almost the same trip for the same number of days at a cost almost three times what I paid for this trip. This showed me wag a travel bargin Road Scholar trips are without skimping on the details. The trip began and ended in Las Vegas rather than two hours away in St. George, Utah, making transportation connections easier and allowing you to spend a little time before or after the trip in Las Vegas.

Program 11573 - Color Country National Parks: Zion, Bryce and Grand Canyon North Rim was a wonderful, educational trip with excellent guides. This was our first trip to these parks and also our first Road Scholar trip and we will definitely participate in another Road Scholar trip. Paul and Maxine LeBlanc

Chris from Arlington, VA Number of programs attended: 1

I found the "Color Country National Parks" a great way to see Zion, Bryce and the North Rim National Parks. All three places were magnificient in their own individual ways. The scenery will stay with me all my life. Transportation, accommodations and food were very satisfactory, and for a reasonable total price. The hikes were challenging enough to be fun, but not overly demanding. I strongly recommend this tour for those who want to see these three parks without having to go on their own.

Sharon from Fremont, CA Number of programs attended: 2

I will remember this adventure for years to come! Who knew this area of the country held such beauty? Exmplified by expertise of Bruce Banker as our leader from NAU. What a treat!

Joyce from Bellingham, WA Number of programs attended: 1

As my first Road Scholar Trip I would give this a 10! All 43 people on the bus were Primos. The tour guide, Nancy, and our resident geologist, Keith, were upbeat, fun, interesting and interested! This couldn't have been more fun. Put your wishes out to the Universe, and the next thing you know you're in Zion, Bryce, and North Rim Grand Canyon.

Debby from Midland, MI Number of programs attended: 0

It wasn't that I hadn't seen movies, documentaries or heard of the Grand Canyon during my lifetime, however, when I was actually THERE standing at the edge and seeing it in real time, the experience was truly awesome and very satisfying.

Greg from Newland, NC Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 09/11/12 - 09/18/12
My wife and I could not reccomend a single tour any higher. It was hard for us to believe that 3 canyons, within 100 miles of each other, could be so vastly different. The content, travel and lodging accomodations and food were terrific as were our hosts. Our group leaders were very warm and inclusive. Highly reccomended.

Our first Road Scholar trip, but it won't be our last! It was super! The hardest thing we had to do was take our luggage to the bus! Everything else was taken care of. The accommodations were great, the tour guides were not only knowledgeable, but obviously cared about the welfare of everyone on the trip! We are already looking forward to the next time we can travel with Road Scholars!

Margy from New Marshfield, OH Number of programs attended: 2

Terrific trip! Seeing Zion, Bryce and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon with the help of Eldon's extensive knowledge of the geologic and cultural forces that effect them helped us really understand and and appreciate the amazing country we visited. Trip was very well planned with options for easy and more challenging hikes and free time to explore on our own.
Our tour coordinator Dianne tried to meet everyone's needs. Another Road Scholar adventure that exceeded expectations!

Robin from Marlborough, CT Number of programs attended: 1

We really enjoyed this trip! Eldon and Diane were wonderful leaders and made the trip fun and interesting. The parks were beautiful and we had ample time to explore each park and see the highlights. The food, accomodations, and entertainment were surprisingly good. We really enjoyed talking with all of our fellow participants - such a nice group of people. This was a great trip. Highly recommend it!

Terry Wangsness, Benson, AZ Number of Programs: This was my 2nd. I had no idea how beautiful Bryce Canyon was, I did go off by myself and hiked a trail, enjoyed it so much I did it twice. I also hiked in Zion, Walters Wiggles if I remember the name, 100 switchback, short ones but a great trail. The North Rim is very peaceful, much quieter than the South Rim. Dining in an open area which is very pretty. The outdoor pool in Zion is lovely as well as the views...Great trip..

I just returned from this excellent program on 9/5/12. In seven days we saw. experienced and learned so much about these three beautiful National Parks with the terrific leadership of Jeff and Jennifer and our driver Ray. I have been on 60 EH and Road Scholar programs, and this one ranks near the top in value, enjoyment and scenic beauty. Jessie Quigley

We were thrilled by our guides' enthusiasm for sharing geology and stories of the lives of the local pioneers on the Road Scholar program, Color Country National Parks. They make hiking canyons easy and accessible for every participant. We know so much more now about the significance of each colorful layer in the Grand Staircase. An unforgettable experience!

Fran from Charlotte, NC Number of programs attended: 2

This was my second Raod Scholar trip. It was so good it set the bar really high for other trips I might take. The parks are of course magnificent and made more so by our guides, Jennifer and Jeff. They are knowledgable, very helpful, and fun to be around. I want them on every trip I take! Our bus driver was also very interesting in his own right. Food and accommodations were fine. The bus trip was used for info sessions which helped pass the time a lot. Awesome sums it up.

Instructors Jeff and Jennifer were the icing on the three-layer cake: Zion, Bryce, and North Rim.

We’ve been on 12 Road Scholar programs. All of them had fine instructors but Jen and Jeff took the cake. Their knowledge, humor, and compassion were unmatched in our experience.

This was our first bus trip. We had some anxiety about riding so much. Jeff and Jen made the time pass fast with their lectures and interaction. Compassion came into play with the bus stops…just enough to accommodate bathroom needs (although there’s a toilet on the bus). The bus driver (also a Road Scholar instructor) was an extra added attraction.

This dessert wasn't a no-no. It was a YES-YES.

And...at Zion consider an adventure to Walter's Wiggles and Angels Landing.
