Our Charleston program was wonderful in every way. The instructors were so knowledgeable, and they really taught us so much! The sites we visited were beautiful, historic, and memorable. The food was outstanding both at the hotel and at the restaurants we visited. The Mills House Hotel was five star! Breakfast each morning was delightful. We were greeted by Eddie ready to prepare a fantastic omelet exactly as we wished. This was our first Road Scholar trip, but it will not be our last.

Charleston is a lovely, charming, historic, walkable city. Hotel location perfect, food (for the most part) very good, nice balance between lectures and field trips around the city and to the plantations. Especially enjoyed the evening concert in the church, just steps from our hotel. Very lucky with the weather: warm and sunny with low humidity. And as always, lots of interesting fellow travelers from all over the U.S. Trip well worth taking.

Good location and hotel. I liked the day trips to the plantations. Could have included Ft. Sumpter and Slave Museum instead of one whole free day. Basically, a 4-day trip became a 3-day trip. Meals mostly good but some just fair.

This is a wonderful program to learn about the history of Chaleston. I knew very little about SC so this was a good experience to hear more about America"s beginnings.

Chaarleston is a beautiful city; rich in culture and history. The plantation tours were excellent and the stately homes along Church Street and East Bay were impressive. There are a large number of art galleries and museums to enjoy. It was a wonderful week!

Eileen from Tampa, FL Number of programs attended: 2

The Mills House Hotel provided outstanding food in a decent hotel. I loved the trips out to the plantations and there were many opportunities to take great photos. The sidewalks are irregular in the old part of the city, which we explored the first day. Be very careful walking. Climbing stairways in old buildings is difficult, although we had two people with canes who managed. There was no problem in the out of town trips in getting around. The informative part of the program was never boring. Learning was enjoyable, and special interests were considered. My favorite evening event was a concert in a historical church.

A beautiful and informative trip that opened my eyes to the long history and living traditions of Charleston, a welcoming region.

Wonderful program! Being housed at Mills House right in the historical district was wonderful! Had access to this area all the time and the hotel was extremely nice to stay in for the entire week. Ruth Miller has a gift of conveying a vast store of historical knowledge about this city, culture, homes, people. The Gullah history is, also, fascinating and the speakers so very entertaining and knowledgeable, as well. I feel that this was one of the best ways to really come to understand South Carolina, Charleston itself, and the historical and cultural, political, and social aspects of this part of the South and U.S. history! Homes are wonderful to tour! Food is outstanding!
