Road Scholar
Program #20581RJ
7 Days | 6 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

This was really an amazing place. It is a beautiful town and the overall programs were very interesting. The hotel was very old, but well kept and in tune with the rest of the town. You would love it.

If you would like a relaxing and beautifully calm environment to examine a topic/theme, this is the program for you. The terrain is generally flat, making it easy for everyone to get around. Provisions for the handicapped couldn't be better. There is plenty to do on the premises - from somewhat demanding, to not-at-all demanding. Accommodations are literally across a little paved road from the amphitheater. Rooms are charming and immaculate. Guests and staff are generally genteel.

Absolutely delightful. The accomodations at the Atheneum hotel were first class. Our guide Jane Mcarthy was a wonderful addition to the Chautauqua experience. Am renting a condo for one week next year and hopefully will spend a second week with Road Scholar at this amazing place once again.

Stimulating, engaging, challenging program. Could hardly wait for the next event, and the food, like the educational content, nourished the spirit as well as the body.

I was not expecting a program so on-point to what was going on in the world, particularly the Middle East. I was only mildly interested in the theme, Egypt and Citizenship, but I found myself captivated from the first day.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our first experience at Chautauqua. The variety of lectures given on world events as well as by the 18 different religions there were thought provoking. Walking the beautiful grounds and enjoying the music was relaxing.

the program is excellent but making arrangements for travel there is difficult because road scholar either does not have the information or is lacking in providing it and made it clear to me i was on my own until i got there

The Chautauqua programming was excellent. Under the sponsorship of National Geographic, we heard internationally acclaimed speakers on topics related to "Feeding a Hungry Planet." We also had our own lecturer, Fred Hitzhusen, to cover other pertinent topics. Chautauqua is an amazing place. Site Coordinator Laurie Stanton at the Athenaeum Hotel and Group Leader Kay Hutton gave additional information about the programming of the Chautauqua Institution, thereby turning a "visit" into quality time and more meaningful experiences than just attending on one's own. Kay is well-versed in the history of Chautauqua. She shared back stories and gave many suggestions which served to enhance my experience. It was obvious to me that Kay truly enjoys being with a Road Scholar group. In addition to the week's themed lectures, there were literally hundreds of things we could see and do. I particularly enjoyed the evening performances which were high quality and very enjoyable. Note: the benches in the Amphitheater are uncomfortable, so take some sort of cushion with a back. This was my second Road Scholar program at Chautauqua and I plan to return. It's a superior site which offers the best of the best in programming.

Both the morning and afternoon presentations were of high quality, and the invited lecturer for our group provided valuable perspectives on hunger issues. The Road Scholar group was one of the best I have experienced. Chautauqua itself is a wonderful environment.

Outstanding experience and a great value. The participants were friendly, smart and engaged. The leaders went out of the way to provide guidance and activities. Can't wait for my next trip with Road Scholars as I embark on my retirement

This program was Utopia, Disney World and Summer Camp for intelligent, inquisitive adults all in one package! I hope to return to CHQ with Road Scholar in the years to come. The program made access to the programs and meals almost effortless, allowing me to use my time to enjoy the lectures, sights, sounds, and events. What an outstanding value!

The background we learned about the various chautauqua speakers was so useful and informative. It made our later interaction with them even more meaningful. It was an excellent experience.

Roger Rosenblatt and Friends is an interesting unique program. You will hear famous authors talk about their work, This is not a lecture, but a sometimes funny, always stimulating time to hear how they create.

Being able to participate in a Chautauqua experience is enhanced by doing it with Road Scholar attendees. Do experience Chautauqua with a Road Scholar program. I recommend it highly.

This was my first Chautauqua trip and my first Road Scholar journey and the combination was perfect for you get all the benefits of the Chautauqua experience as a package with Road Scholar so it is also a good value with everything included. It is a real winner with lodging, parking, food and terrific programs that are varied in nature. The only downside is too many choices for you just can't do everything. But what a delectable dilemma!
