When RS says walking to and from "hill towns" and in "hill country" they mean just that. Not overwhelming but you need to be prepared. A great trip.

I am sorry the tour is over and we are not just beginning. Umbria and Tuscany will be forever memories that will bring a smile and take me away on moments as I recall the wonderful experience I had.

I agree with both Susan and Penny. It was a very pleasant set of walks, with a very pleasant group of interesting people. Thoroughly enjoyable, thoroughly worth the time and effort.

Penny expressed it best! What an awesome trip. Highlights included the group we were with (loved them) and Camiano Piccolo--where else will you stay and dine in a place owned by the same family for 25 generations? Fabulous! Yes, it was strenuous, but we really earned our meals--which were also [mostly] amazing! Thanks to everyone who had a role in putting this together--it was a trip of a lifetime for me!

Hiking boots on, daypack packed and you are ready to enjoy Italy at its unique best. Grand green landscapes, fragrant aromas and intimate glimpses of wildflowers and village life await along trails through the countryside. A well-planned trip that expands your knowledge of both Italy and its place in the world historically. Friendly staff, good accommodations and flexibility enough to allow for reasonable attention to participant's particular needs. Be prepared for the challenges of (mostly) uphill walks, however (or that's the way it seemed at times) and you will enjoy one of the most educational, enjoyable trips of a lifetime.

This was a great program. You really got up and close with the people. We toured Assassi and Siena. I was extremely glad to see those famous cities. However, they were packed with tourists. A couple days of that kind of thing were enough. I'm glad we got to walk country roads and trails among vinyards and olive groves and see small towns. I loved that we got to eat homemade local food and drink local wine with most lunches and dinners. Tucansy and Umbria are also safe. You don't have to worry about pickpockets and other crimes.

What a wonderful itinerary. You can visit Italy on your own, but the truffle hunt with the dogs, the tour and lunch at the olive mill, the wine tasting lunch at the vineyard and hearing the monks chants in the abbey really gave you an inside view. The meals lovingly prepared by those families that run those establishments were so special. And the guides were not only knowledgeable, but warm, enthusiastic and humorous.

This is a great trip! If you enjoy walking in beautiful countryside, seeing and learning about antiquities, learning about wine and oil olive productive, enjoying great food and wine -- you'll enjoy this trip.
