Japan, a land of seemingly inexplicable contrasts for us, came to life while travelling with our guides who were able to shed light on many of the mysteries and taught us much about its history while we enjoyed various aspects of its culture.

Ted, Tom, and Jackie all worked overtime to be sure we had what was needed to have a good trip. The trains are clean, fast, and reliable. Japan has a tremendous history, wonderful cultural activities, and beautifully presented food to enjoy at a leisurely pace.

A great educational experience with knowledgeable guides. Includes parts of Japan somewhat off the beaten track -- very enjoyable!

This energetic program provides an informed introduction to a fascinating country. It does what it advertises, namely gets you out and about, mixing with the people on trams, trains, buses, ferries, etc. and also provides an excellent overview of history, culture and society - while introducing one to a range of amazing culinary delights.

An excellent program. Be aware that it an active adventure requiring handeling your own luggage and long busy days. I did find some walking distances longer than stated in the program.

Cathy from Leicester, NC Number of programs attended: 1

This was an active, walking tour with a deep dive into history filled in with a good look into current life. Japan is a beautiful country and this season was ideal to view the cherry blossoms and emerging maples in serene zen gardens. The program included great food, updated comfortable hotels and masterful logistics. This was an excellent intro to Road Scholar tours.

Jennifer from Santa Rosa, CA Number of programs attended: 15
Date attended: 03/25/14 - 04/10/14
This was one of the most varied trips I have experienced. We delved into many different aspects of Japanese life with extremely knowledgeable and helpful guides. Walk Japan does an excellent job of presenting a comprehensive overview of Japan and kindling a desire to return to this beautiful and intriguing country.

Ruth from Carmichael, CA Number of programs attended: 12
Date attended: 10/01/13 - 10/17/13
This was an exciting, educational and spiritually refreshing tour for me. Learning more about Japan's long history of wars, the modernity achieved in a short time, the religious beliefs and the cultural differences all made for an interesting look at this country. I would love to return for an even longer stay.

Joseph from Inver Grove Heights, MN Number of programs attended: 8

This is an excellent tour for persons who like to walk, use public transportation, and want to have an extra ordinary cultural experience.

David from Albuquerque, NM Number of programs attended: 12
Date attended: 04/09/13 - 04/25/13
A deep introduction to Japanese history and culture, with a range of experiences impossible to duplicate as an independent traveler, and going far beyond what a "standard" Japan tour is likely to include. Excellent tour guide and instructors with unique, Japan-based viewpoints make this tour a winner in spades.

This program is a thorough and comprehensive experience in learning the culture of Japan, from its long and fascinating history to its day to day life in the modern times. This is not a tour from the window of a bus, rather you will experience Japan as the natives do, using subways, trolleys, trains, and even ferries. There will also be plenty of walking, all leading to plenty of interraction with the shy but very friendly natives! The variety of the tour is incredible...from big cities, to small rural towns, to weekend recreation spots to the mountains. Also plenty of history and food. To do this in 15 days, You will be "on the go" constantly, so be prepared. You should be in decent physical shape. I went on the April 2013 tour and it was an amazing experience for me. It is highly recommended for solo travellers too...the single supllement was very minor and many of the participants were singles.
