A beautiful and very interesting country with very friendly people. Unfortunately, 2.5 days into our trip, my wife became ill and spent the next 9.5 days in bed in three different hotels. Needless to say it was a real bummer for my wife who so looked forward to the trip. Our kudos for our tour group leader, Finnbjorn Gislason who spent four hours in the emergency room with us at the Akureyri Hospital. He insited on staying with us and acted as our conduit with the hospital intake nurse. He clearly went above and beyond. He also helped us get an extended stay of several hours at the Hotel Kea in Akureyri, Iceland. He was an outstanding ambassador for the Icelandic people and thankfully, we had him for our tour group leader.

This is a busy and varied program with lots of nature, mostly captivating lectures, and visits to places that make Iceland unique (e.g., horse farm, shark museum, geothermal power plant, lunch at a greenhouse operation). The food was outstanding and plentiful, with good breakfasts at all locations. The hotel rooms were perhaps not as large or well-appointed as in many other programs, but they were very conveniently located for free-time activities. Dressing up was not necessary, but you need to be prepared for many types of weather. Some people had rain pants which came in handy. Hats, gloves, and rain jackets/windbreakers are a must even though it is "summer." You will see all the highlights mentioned in the guidebooks, and more. We felt that it was a great trip and well worth the money.

Iceland! it was stark, vast, and geologically astounding. I was surrounded by educated people sharing my astonishment and the Islandic guide was friendly and deeply knowledgeable.

Iceland is the most exotic place that you can get to within a six hour flight from the East Coast. Scenery, history, culture, unforgettable local characters, an impossible language - you WILL be surprised.

I’ve just returned from the July Best of Iceland tour. The other reviewers have pretty much said it all. It is a wonderful tour! In addition to the regularly scheduled events, our Tour Leader, Finn, took those of us who were interested on a walking tour of Reykjavik which included viewing a huge relief map of Iceland in City Hall. Iceland affords many outstanding photography opportunities. Still shots do not do justice to the waterfalls. Plan to be able to take videos.

This was a very well balanced tour, with the culture, economy, geography, climate, agriculture and opportunities for interesting and varied photography. Our leader, Kristin, was excellent. This was our 13th Road Scholar programs and was one of the very best. 06/22/14 - 07/03/14

This was an excellent insight into the culture and fascinating environment of Iceland. The various industries, birds and fish and geography were shown and explained. They pointed out that their winters are more moderate than in the US and the summers are kess hot.

A fabulous trip! Always something interesting to see or do. Kristin, our tour guide is very well informed about her country and tells interesting tales about trolls. The landscapes are out of this world! This trip is well worth taking.
