A tiny island in the crossroads of Mediterranean history. Deep blue sea and giant Stone Age Megalithic Temple structures. This is a not-to-miss experience.

Malta, at 122 square miles, is not quite as big as the Hawaiian island of Lanai, but it has played a role in the history of humankind on this planet that belies its tiny geographic size. Indeed, were an alien species to arrive subsequent to the demise of our kind, looking for a time capsule documenting the civilization that has evolved on earth over the past 7000 years, they need look no further than the island nation of Malta. With megalithic monuments dating from earlier than either the Pyramids or Stonehenge, a language derived from Arab invaders written in Roman alphabet, medieval cities and fortresses built by Catholic knights besieged by the Ottomans, and underground military lairs from which World War II battles were directed by the Allies in the midst of incessant air raids by the Axis powers, Malta encapsulates all the ingenuity of our species in both its beauty and its horror. This program provides a fantastic overview of each of these eras with site visits and lectures by learned professionals in a place which should be on everyone's bucket list.

An outstanding experience that included both seeing the sites and true learning about them, with a staff as friendly, well-organized and companionable as one could wish. Eye opening, enjoyable, and all in all, a great trip!

Thousands of years of history, expert lecturers, excellent accommodations, good food, services of superb group leader Vivian, site coordinator Josette, and drivers Joe and Franz. Opportunities to wander through prehistoric temples, castles of knights, World War II command center, have dinner with local people and play bacci! A five-star program.

Vivian and Josetta and Joe our airport driver were all great. Malta has so much variety that the time we had there was too short. Wish RScholar would lengthen the trip. Mike if you read this please resend your email. I lost it.

It was a joy to view the evidence of the many layers of history from 5000 BC to the present day which were brought to life by a series of excellent speakers. The carvings from the earliest times were amazing and yet mysteriously contemporary. It was easy to imagine the ancient fortifications surrounding the magnificent harbor serving as sets for the many movies filmed there. The trip was well organized, our guide Vivian was outstanding, and because we stayed in one hotel we only had to unpack once. A great trip!!

Some of our friends had told us that Malta is only good for a three day visit. They were wrong. The ten days were full of differentand interesting places and visits.
