This was a terrific trip. The itinerary was comprehensive, and Mary was wonderful: knowledgeable, courteous and organized.

A group leader can make or break a tour and Mary Seifert made this one GREAT. She showed us as much as possible in our five days with enthusiasm, smiles, lots of knowledge and nice bathrooms!

The Washington, D.C. Signature City Tour was fantastic! We visited all the sites that I really wanted to see and learned a great deal about them. Our Group Leader was terrific, the accommodations were excellent, and our fellow Road Scholars were a great group. If you want to see our Nation's Capitol, this is how to do it. Just a great tour!

Mary Seifert was an excellent Program Director and Guide! She made the History and sights of Washington DC come alive. She was organized and enthusiastic yet kept us all right on schedule. Our Group of 23 all became quickly acquainted and interested in one another. Mary has such a talent to share her knowledge and keen awareness of current events with the Participants. My husband Jerry and I felt this Program was the finest Road Scholar program out of the 10 we have attended. Keep up the fine work in offering such great travel opportunities to Road Scholar Participants, and Mary Siefert is a real Gem!

Washington is a great city and this program covered many highlights. Excellent hotel in a good location close to the Capital and a 10 minute walk from Union Station, where the nearest METRO stop is. Our leader was loquacious and friendly. Bring good walking shoes, I wish I had brought a portable stool too as Rhee is a lot of standing time at monuments.

Wonderful program in every way; it is hard to identify what I liked “best!” Mary Seifert, our enthusiastic leader, was truly outstanding, sharing an incredible knowledge of history (and interesting lore), and guiding our group with kindness and expertise. This trip addressed how D.C. developed and was built and its significance, past and present, and provided a good overview of D.C. and the region. The monuments, memorials, museums, city, Georgetown—all wonderful! All of our guides, and lecturer, were excellent, as well. While I was tired at the end of each day, I wouldn’t have changed a thing. Great group of fellow travellers, too! The Hyatt Hotel is well situated and offers a great breakfast. The only negatives would be the choice of two restaurants, Uno’s and the Capitol cafeteria—but not deal-breakers. Can’t wait to return to D.C.!

The program is very interesting and educational. It is also accurately described as active.

Jacqueline from Pennington, NJ Number of programs attended: 5
Date attended: 03/18/15 - 03/23/15
This is a fantastic program with a very thorough overview of most of the important sites and buildings in Washington. Our group leader, Mary Seifert, is herself a terrific historian and her insights and knowledge really enhanced our experience. Her energy and devotion to the group were outstanding. I came away with both a greater appreciation for our country's history and government and a desire to return to some of the fabulous Smithsonian Museums as we couldn't possibly visit all of them.

Rita from Oakland, CA Number of programs attended: 2

This trip exceeded my expectations. It's perfect for first time visitors to our Nation's Capital as well as those who have visited before.

Ellen from Greensboro, NC Number of programs attended: 18

Another great experience. This program gives a very good overall view of highlights of DC. Great introduction to the city and opens doors for future more specific programs. Our coordinator Mary was superlative!

Carolyn from Las Vegas, NV Number of programs attended: 13
Date attended: 06/12/14 - 06/17/14
This program just whets your appetite to explore Washington, D.C. at length. I especially enjoyed Steve Livengood, our Capitol tour guide who did his job well, and Akram Elias who intrigued us with how much of D.C. is designed according to Freemasonry. We were able to see, do, and learn so much in our few days. Tudor Place, The Portrait Gallery, and The Smithsonian Museums are a must for Scholars. I want to thank Sue, our group leader as well as Carlie and Helen, Road Scholar travel mates, for lending to my enjoyment of this program.

Karen from Indiana, PA Number of programs attended: 229
Date attended: 05/15/14 - 05/20/14
My husband (who has been to 243 Elderhostels) and I can't recommend this program highly enough, Mary Seifert is an outstanding leader, and our speakers and guides were excellent as well. We especially enjoyed Akram Elias' lecture on DC's Masonic legacy. Our hotel, the Grand Hyatt Washington, has a wonderful location within walking distance of Ford's Theater, the White House, museums, and other attractions. We had excellent food -- the breakfast buffet at the Hyatt would be hard to beat! we look forward to doing more Elderhostels in Washington.

Douglas from Tucson, AZ Number of programs attended: 24

This is an excellent program. The hotel is tops in every way and a short walk to the White House, et al. Mary Seifert was the perfect tour leader - knowledgable, efficient, personality plus. We had been to Washington a few times on our own and this visit offered a number of experiences new to us - a play at the Ford Theater, The Harlem Gospel Choir at the Howard Theater, a tour of Lincoln's cottage to name a few. We highly recommend this program.

Washington DC is a outstanding program. Our hotel was beautiful and walking distance to Museums and the White House. We had an an excellent tour of the Capitol building and a Walking tour of the War memorials as well as Georgetown. Favorite tour was Lincoln's place at the Soldiers home, and lunch an entertainment at the Howard theater.

Joyce from Davis, CA Number of programs attended: 15

Exploring Washington D. C. with Mary Seifert was a satisfying experience. She explained things well and gave us as much independence as we wanted. The hotel was excellent and its location couldn't be beat. The restaurants were well chosen. We visited monuments, neighborhoods, historic places and learned alot. Highly recommended.
