Road Scholar
Program #1725RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderately Challenging
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

This program is well organised, very informative, I can highly recommend to see New York with Road Scholar

We live in a medium-sized city in the desert of southeastern Washington, D. S. (Da State), and had never tried either Road Scholar and had never been to New York City. The program was a perfect match with what we came to the city for, and we felt it a very good value. Having both our hotel and many meals provided was a great advantage, because one's first visit to a place is mainly a course on what would be done differently if there were a next time. We learned a great deal about the five boroughs that make up the city, and were especially impressed by the many change in those boroughs over time. We'll definitely do more Road Scholar tours.

This program is for the hearty walker and provides the opportunity to return to the hotel if the need arises. Worked for me!!

Great way to see the Five Burroughs. Make sure you bring extra comfortable walking shoes as you will be walking about 5 miles on each of several days.

Susan from Asheville, NC Number of programs attended: 3
Date attended: 06/08/14 - 06/13/14
Road Scholars might not consider this trip to be an "environmental" experience but there were lots of opportunities to learn about and be surrounded by nature, even in the dense boroughs - lots of walks in green spaces, water, etc. - delightful respite from the hustle and bustle of the streets. The High Line and city parks are amazing.

Top notch program even for those who have visited NYC many times before.

This is absolutely the best way to see and get to know your way around NYC. Great location, food, sightseeing, and most importantly, great speakers and leaders.

I get to NYC often but never got to the other most interesting places outside of Manhattan. the lectures helped me understand the evolution of NY and seeing places I never would have done on my own was wonderful. I travel single so I was a bit hesitant about a room mate, but this turned out to be great. I will do RS again --the question is where there is so much to choose from!

Joanne from Barnegat, NJ Number of programs attended: 1

If you want to experience life in each of the five New York City boroughs, this is the program for you. I was amazed and delighted to learn about the diversity that makes up New York City. This trip was my first Road Scholar Program but won't be the last.

Karen from Arcata, CA Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 10/13/13 - 10/18/13
I got what I wanted from this program: a better sense of New York City and a visual of the boroughs, especially Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and their geographic relation to Manhattan Island. The program was well organized and expertly led, especially by Angela whose warmth and generosity made for an incredible experience.

Seth from Happy Valley, OR Number of programs attended: 14

Myrna from Novato, CA Number of programs attended: 6

Five Boroughs in Five Days (New York city) was an outstanding tour. The instructors were informative, had a great sense of humor and engaged the participants in their presentations. Angela, our group leader was outstanding and very patient with the "large" group needs. This program is a winner.

Cynthia from San Jose, CA Number of programs attended: 3
Date attended: 10/13/13 - 10/18/13
Just enjoyed my first visit to New York!! Learning about the 5 burroughs gave me an understanding of the diversity they deal with. Great way to see all the major sightsin 5 days!!

Patricia from Franklin, WI Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 10/13/13 - 10/18/13
John K's arichtectural comments on our walking excursions pointed out details that I never would have been able to see for myself. For many of the boroughs I felt that I was transported back in time to the 19th, early 20th century when these wonderful homes and landmarks were built.

Charles from University Heights, OH Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 09/29/13 - 10/04/13
Each activity on the itinerary was well thought out and exceeded my expectations.

Brenda from Bloomington, IN Number of programs attended: 1

Fascinating week in New York learning about the history, boughs and architecture.

Larry from Fort Wayne, IN Number of programs attended: 16
Date attended: 09/15/13 - 09/20/13
Five boroughs in five days in New York City met our expectations. We would not have traveled to all 5 boroughs on our own. We did spend an additional week in New York. Had we not had the additional week, we would have missed much that New York City has to offer. In 5 days, one free afternoon and evening is sufficient. Group leaders were especially helpful with restaurants to choose and places to visit.

Joan from Washington, DC Number of programs attended: 3
Date attended: 09/15/13 - 09/20/13
This is a great program for those who want to learn and experience the boroughs that are a part of New York City.

Patricia from Jamaica Plain, MA Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 08/18/13 - 08/23/13
5 Days/5 Boroughs is an excellent way to see parts of New York that even native New Yorkers have probably missed. It is a fun, very active week with lots of information about a great city. If you get Angela for a guide, you will have an even greater experience.

Barbara from Palo Alto, CA Number of programs attended: 7
Date attended: 06/23/13 - 06/28/13
Your evaluation questions were sufficient. I loved the trip

Matt from Indianapolis, IN Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 05/19/13 - 05/24/13
Five Days/Five Boroughs was a great trip: it was interesting and we covered so much. Walking, riding the bus, learning to navigate the subway made for a delightful time. We covered so much and learned so much and enjoyed all the staff who were so helpful.

Cora from Louisville, KY Number of programs attended: 6
Date attended: 10/21/12 - 10/26/12
Great trip! I feel that we know more about New York City than many friends who travel there frequently as well as some New Yorkers! Lots of walking, subway riding and fun! Lectures were wonderful!

Mary Anne from Derby, NY Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 10/21/12 - 10/26/12
This was only my second trip with Road Scholar but will definitely not be my last. In fact, after visiting Ireland in the Spring, I immediately found another program for the Fall on my return.
