Really interesting trip! We toured a apple packing plant that is co-owned by the growers. Several 4th & 5th generation apple growers shared their knowledge of what it takes to bring apples to the consumer. For me, the highlight of the trip was the tour of Rocky Reach Dam. Our group was allowed inside the dam. Tours were canceled after 9/11, but our guide Linda Cisco was able to get special access for our group. Seeing the inner workings of the turbines & the enormity of parts that make-up this dam were awesome. Taking the 'Lady of the Lake' boat trip to Stehekin provided excellent views of the many apple orchards & vineyards providing beautiful Fall colors. Rainbow Falls in Stehekin are a beautiful treat to see. Chelan's wineries & vineyards show-off the rolling hills, reminding me of Tuscany. There is a excellent historical museum in Chelan that provides more insight into how this area developed over the years since it was founded. And now, I think I know more about Chelan than most of the new residents! In case I forgot to add, I'm now eating apples every day!
