Diane Brown from Philadelphia, PA Number of programs attended: 2 Date attended: 03/03/10 - 03/09/10 Date attended: 05/17/15 - 05/22/15 Very nice and safe trip to San Francisco. The activities were inspiring as well as educational. I enjoyed being with the Road Scholar group especially since I don't get a chance to socialize often. This group was energetic and friendly. I did not get enough of Fisherman's Wharf. I want to and I plan to go back soon. Alcatraz was definitely educational because it allowed me to actually see what I had heard about. This also applies to the Golden Gate Bridge, the bay, the cable cars and the streets/hills of San Francisco. The Wells Fargo Museum and the Cable car museum was more interesting than I thought it would be. The hotel was very accommodating, warm and friendly. I certainly enjoyed the wine that they gave us each night at 5:30p.m. All their meals and meals outside the hotel were eye appealing and good. My room mate was very kind and considerate as I hope I was too.

Great trip to San Francisco. Interesting activities and very good meals. The Hotel Carlton was a top notch place to stay. I did take a side trip to Muir Woods which was well worth it as that is no longer included in this trip.

I have enjoyed 5 great days with the Road Scholars Program in San Francisco. The activities were varied and well supported by the educational programming. We saw the highlights of San Francisco and had time as well to enjoy some culinary experiences.

Nice program, we enjoyed the variety of activities, Loved seeing Alcatraz island and Fisherman's wharf. We ate at a variety of restaurants, which was fun. Always had adequate money in voucher form to get a good meal, except lunch at art museum, Legion of Honor, which is very High . Hotel was very nice and modern, and our meals were good, although early.

San Francisco is a visually beautiful city, with an interesting history. I enjoyed the program very much as it had us all over the city, doing different types of activities. We also spent time in Marin County at the beautiful Muir Woods and Stinson Beach area. All the instructions, speakers and guides were excellent and the program was nicely coordinated. We had the opportunity to eat at different types of restaurants: formal, a diner, a family owned, a museum, and ethnic - each with excellent food and very atmospheric. There is a fair amount of walking involved.

Since I've wanted to get to Santa Clara, the only CA Mission of 21 total I haven't seen, and also see the main Wells Fargo Museum; also, I'd been to San Francisco here and there over many years but never on a tour, I went on this trip to see more. The Road Scholar trip stayed at a very nice hotel with a helpful/polite staff [found me a way to get to Santa Clara, etc.], but a location more central would have been better. The docents at places such as the Legion of Honour [great art and special exhibit], the bus driver/guides around the whole city, walking tour Chinatown, etc,, thru old Presidio , etc., going to Alcatraz, the meals fabulous. I went to the WF Museum [2 floors, large] after the RS program with a local friend and also to Santa Clara, having stayed a few days longer at the hotel. I arrived after the intro, as my shuttle went all over San Fran., so I had an unorganized start to a swamped first 2 days of the program; I mainly missed the intro and wasn't organized for the first day. Wish I had known that the new Cathedral was just an easy 10-minute walk away, but I found it after the program. Wish I had arrived a little earlier to get settled into the area and my room.

A diverse tour of San Francisco --- from Alcatraz to the Legion of Honor art museum, from Chinatown to Muir Woods, great scenery and vistas for that perfect photo of SF and beyond, complete with raconteur and historian James Dalessandro plus tour guide Don Stace's informative half day walking tour of Union Square, Chinatown and more. Stimulating, informative, sociable, energizing. A fulfilling program that leaves you wanting more.

This was a great program to see and learn about the historic city of San Francisco. Glad I brought a good pair of walking shoes for the uphill treks to local restaurants and public transportation. The docents were top notch and very knowledgeable. It was wonderful to meet new people with similar interests.
