If you want to hike through one of the most beautiful places in the U.S., see incredible wild life, gorgeous scenery and learn all about this marvelous park and its geo thermal features, its animals and its history take this program. The hikes are well paced and physically challenging and the instruction top notch.

I will remember this trip for a very long time. I feel invigorated after learning so much and having so much fun doing it. Our two instructors and leaders were terrific ambassadors for Yellowstone park. Jim and Jean were walking encyclopedias of the history of Yellowstone and it's natural world. These funny and witty men, along with their astute observations of the natural world of Yellowstone made hiking a joy!

Magnificent and breathtaking. The hikes were awesome. The instructors gave humanity to the park's history. Highly recommended.

Just completed the Yellowstone "Walk on the Wild Side" program. Highly recommend it for everyone who loves to hike and enjoys and appreciates the history of Yellowstone. Stupendous

The instructor, Gene Ball, for this Yellowstone Hiking trip was wonderful - knowledgeable, humble, and an enjoyable leader. We saw many sights in the northern part of the park, which are more beautiful, less known and less crowded than around Old Faithful. Gene knew where to hike in beautiful, less crowded, trails and where to find interesting wildlife that he spotted for us with his telescope. I highly recommend this rip.

This was a great well organized and well executed program! Gene, our guide, is a Road Scholar Treasure. He has in-depth knowledge about the park, its features, and wildlife and has a wonderful way of sharing that knowledge with the participants. We saw all the things that Yellowstone offers--grizzles, elk, bison, eagles, geysers, hot springs, wildflowers, etc. We spent a lot of time on the bus going to various parts of the park but it was a pleasant experience traveling through the beautiful landscape. We had a congenial group of 13 hikers and 3 painters and called ourselves "The Intrepids" because of our hikes in the rain and mud. I thought it was a plus to have the painters combined with us hikers because we got different perspectives from them and their art instructor Nolan. Gardiner is a neat western town with elk meandering among the streets and lawns. The accommodations were adequate and the motel has a nice small terrace overlooking the Yellowstone River for gathering after dinner when the weather permitted.

It would have taken me many visits and hours of research and reading to begin to scratch the surface of what I learned on this trip. The knowledge of the instructor was impressive!

fantastic trip made even better because there were 2 groups combined so that if you were not up for a 6mile hike that day, you could join the other group in a more leisurely day but still filled with visual delights and challenges. Leaders were excellent. Do not expect good food. You are here for the hiking and exploring of magnificent views. the leaders lent walking sticks and binoculars. when wild life was spotted, leaders pulled out scopes and set them up for everyone to view.

Jeanne from Simsbury, CT Number of programs attended: 4

I think it was great that there were two levels on this trip so some could choose whether to participate on a particular day or activity or not.

Great tour of Yellowstone for those who want to be on foot much of the time.bring your camera and good shoes! There are sufficient rest stops, but be prepared for some exercise.

The late-May timeframe was an excellent time to be in Yellowstone, since few tourists were there yet. We had to hike in a little snow, but the weather was perfect. Lee Harry and Gene Ball were excellent leaders, and if you like seeing wildlife and thermal action, this Yellowstone program is for you. We had good accommodations and food. Most hikes were short trips off the bus, but we did have 6 and 3 mile hikes.

What a terrific way to experience Yellowstone. Gene and Jim are so knowledgeable,we learned so much as we enjoyed the magnificent wilderness and active caldera. Deb and Penny made sure everything came together despite wild fires and road closures. Could not have asked for a better experience.

Laura from Neenah WI This was my first Road Scholar experience. It exceeded all expectations. Both the instructor and coordinator were excellent. Dr Raven is wonderful. She is engaging, enthusiastic and irrepressible with an amazing knowledge of all aspects of Yellowstone park. Likewise, Erica Tremblay was very well organized, resourceful, and welcoming. Their combined skills provided a first rate experience. The groups members were congenial and interesting. Our group of eleven people were on time and ready to go each day. Accommodations were fine and food was quite good.

All the leaders were remarkable. Engaging, knowledgeable, friendly, helpful. The scenery is obviously gorgeous. However, as with several recent RS trips, many participants were not up to the physical level of the program, even with the split between the "long" and "short" options. I can only speak to the "long" option but the pace was exceptionally slow to accommodate many in the group. This is not "hiking" but a nature walk. Be very aware of that if you go on this program. And the group was also too large in my view. Finally, the food was particularly poor. But if you are interested in seeing beautiful scenery and are more interested in a nature walk than a hike, this would be a very worthwhile program.

This is a wonderful program. The instructors, coordinator, and leader were top notch. Learning and recreation were deftly melded into the program. Of course the park itself was the jewel of the program. A great way to see the park in a way that most never do. Highly recommended.

Eileen from Indianola, IA Number of programs attended: 4

I really appreciated the long history our instructors and leader have with Yellowstone National Park. I came away with a greater understanding and experience of the multiple eco-systems within the Park, with the predominant thermal nature and thermal history of the Park, and with the complexity of the management issues of the Park.

It was the perfect blend of challenge and support, both physically and mentally, with a group of varied, but like-minded people. Learning and playing can be combined!

Candice from Houston, TX Number of programs attended: 3

This was a wonderful experience. The option of longer or shorter hikes worked very well since I took advantage of the opportunity to really get further into Yellowstone than so many people. The hike leaders were very experienced and did just the right amount of interpretation along the way. I highly recommend this trip.

Yellowstone hiking trip was above expectations. The guides were knowledgable and enjoyable and the organizers were super at switching gears as needed. The accommodations and food were simple and clean. I learned so much and would never have had the quality of experience had I visited Yellowstone on my own.

Priscilla from Roseville, MN Number of programs attended: 3

Gene Ball was a wonderful guide to this fantastic national treasure. He was knowledgeable about every aspect of its history, geology, ecology and plant and animal life. We got a great education plus incredible trails and views. Highly recommend.
