Great Experience! Excellent program with knowledgeable group leader, expert driver, and great fellow travelers. Recommend this program for a great way to experience the Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Glacier, Waterton Lakes, Banff, and Jasper National Parks.

Although we had visited the Tetons and Yellowstone on a previous trip with another tour provider, we found this trip to be more enjoyable.

Jerry from Bethesda, MD Number of programs attended: 10

Great program and well-led. Several venues were marred by smoke from forest fires in California and Washington State. Group leader should have been empowered to change venues for weather and smoke, and extend stays at Lake Louise and walks on the glacier.

This was the most fantastic trip ever!! It would have been impossible to see even a small part of what we saw on our own in the same amount of time. The knowledge imparted and sights we saw were things we will continue to remember for years to come. We absolutely recommend this tour.

Jacqueline from Pennington, NJ Number of programs attended: 8

This is a delightful and fascinating program with magnificent and diversified scenery, unique lodges to visit and sometimes stay in, opportunities for exploratory walks, enough free time for individual interests and preferences, terrific museums, mostly good food and comfortable lodgings. We were blessed with terrific weather, a fabulous bus driver, a conscientious and caring leader and warm personable participants.

This was a great trip that covered a lot of ground. I thought it was well-organized and informative. In my opinion, any small negatives were far outweighed by the positives!

This is a well-paced active survey of the National parks in Wyoming, Montana and Alberta. We saw bears, elk, bison, swans and mountain goats on our tours. We visited museums featuring Native American culture as well as wildlife art. We saw a lot, learned a lot and enjoyed the company of pleasant traveling companions.

When selecting a date, mid-August is perfect. Crowds are not as big, and weather was great. Walking sticks are not necessary, and water bottles are provided, so you can save room in your suitcase. Scenery was fantastic.

This Road Scholar tour "Grand Teton to Banff" is a well-conceived, well-executed survey of key stops on several US and Canadian national parks. The tour is enriched with interesting talks on the geology of mountain formation, diverse manifestations of the hot spot below Yellowstone (mudpots, geysers, hot springs, shrinking glaciers at Glacier National Park and other topics. There is free time for some shopping in pleasant Jackson and Banff as well as stops in some elegant hotels beyond most(and likely our) tour budgets. The tour group size is larger than for the typical Road Scholar international trip, but that did not interfere with fulfilling the ambitious itineraries and was made commendably efficient by pre-ordering many meals. Our group rapport was very good as was the tour leader, Deb Smith, who is well-organized and gracious in keeping things on track

Wonderful, exciting program. Everyday was exciting because of the beauty of the Northwest.

I took this trip with my mother, and we had a wonderful time. Tim, our guide, was calm and in control, but in such an inclusive, friendly, relaxed way. The coach was comfortable. The guides were knowledgable and the information accessible. I especially liked learning more about the Blackfoot people - I didn't realize how much more I really needed to learn about the Native American experience, but it was definitely good for me and interesting, too. The accomodations were acceptable to really wonderful, the meals were mostly acceptable to great, and the scenery was awe-inspiring. I'm grateful I got the chance to go on this trip, to spend the time with my mom in such beautiful places on such a relaxing tour. At 48, I was the second-youngest person on the tour, BUT the pace fit me to a T. I would highly recommend this tour.

We had never been to any of these National Parks and were wowed by every one! Leader Penny and bus driver Mike were full of expertise and much humor for the entire trip! We had really great fellow travelers too! If you've never been to these great parks, we highly recommend this trip. Jaw dropping scenery, great lodges and great food too. Carla & Clarence Lititz, PA

The program was full of interesting accounts and stories botfrom the lecturers and other participants. I found it more fun and enjoyabloe than I had anticipate and looked forward to every day. I went on the trip with my twin sister - we live together since our husbands died in 2006, and we were equally frull of praise.

This trip blended the physical beauty of the National Parks, history, and the animals in their natural habitat in ways that go beyond expectations. Enjoy these parts as the rest of the world continues speeding up.

Being in the Rockies was truly spectacular. The majestic mountains, glorious rivers and waterfalls, lakes, glaciers, and the geo-thermal features of Yellowstone were magical places to be. Lectures and step-on guides provided information about the geology, history, and wildlife of the area. I felt fortunate to see a black bear cub scratching its back on a wooden fence along the road, female big horn sheep on the shore of a lake, a mother and baby moose on a meadow, even a group of wolves running together in a field. I enjoyed learning about the Blackfoot nation from Mariah Gladsone, an eloquent story teller, indian sign language teacher, and student at Columbia University. The native American driver of our bus on Going to the Sun Road related historical and present day information about the Blackfoot. Visits to two art galleries were two other special experiences. Lodging was comfortable; food choices were excellent. Our leader Tim was organized, pleasant, caring, and informed. Our bus driver added to our experience. He was a patient helper in spotting wildlife, generously sharing his binoculars. Altogether, it was a beautiful and memorable trip!!

The tour from Jackson, Wyo., to Banff, from the Tetons to the Canadian Rockies was beautiful on top of awesome - even if the weather didn't cooperate. Our Aug. 2014 group of lively participants made the adventure all the better; and we were graced with a fabulous group leader and bus driver.

The star of the program was the National Parks themselves but Road Scholar did an outstanding job of presenting them to us. Our tour leader and our bus driver plus other participants enhanced our experience. The biggest disappointments were weather and some of the meals. The first was beyond Road Scholar's control and some of the mediocre meals probably were too since options are limited in the Parks. Also, we didn't need the recommended water bottles since bottled water was provided on the bus.

A fast-paced sampling of many beautiful places. Perfect for anyone who has never experienced Yellowstone and the northern Rocky Mountains. You learn a huge amount and then have to decide which places deserve a return visit some day--pretty much all of them!

Returned recently from this trip 7/22/14 - 8/2/14 Itinerary from Jackson Wy to Calgary with all the parks along way is quite beautiful. I would ,however not recommend this trip unless or until road scholar makes significant changes. Hotel in Banff is hideous and filthy (Mount Blanc). unsanitary food handling practices observed at breakfast buffet there. We got the next two breakfasts in town and not with the group. Trip to lake Louise includes a buffet lunch at the Fairmont. Should have been good, but we were served along with a group of probably 1000 other tourists. All open buffet dishes with no sneeze guards. Both my husband and I became quite ill 3 days later. (This is the incubation time for a viral illness). Given the epidemiological nightmare that buffet provided I'm not too surprised. This trip could be great but REALLY needs to be cleaned up!!!

Road Scholar's response:
Thank you for your feedback, James, I am writing to address some of the points raised in your program review. First, concerning food, every dish at this extremely elegant and magnificent dining room is served in covered chafing dishes to ensure sanitary conditions. There is no way to confirm whether you got sick from food served on the program though we assure you, and all future participants, that the facility adheres to al health safety codes. It is true that the location is very popular location due, however, the exact number of other people is closer to around 300 than 1,000. Furthermore, there have never been a negative comment about the facility, the Chateau at Lake Louise from other participants and it is a very well-liked location that we have used for several years. We regret to hear that the hotel did not meet your expectations.

After attending over 20 programs since 1999, I found this program to be one of the best. From the Group Leader and the Driver of the bus to the great participants, and the wonderful scenery, I found the trip to be the most I could have wished for. Great memories are still floating around in my head.

This was a trip of a lifetime. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, the next venue would knock my socks off. Difficult to pick a favorite place; they were all unique and amazing. The tour was perfectly paced, with enough time in between each venue, yet ample chances to explore in each place. A wonderful group of fellow travelers was the icing on the cake. Highly, highly recommended! Thanks to all for a memorable, unique trip with indescribable natural beauty, and wildlife at every turn.
