Road Scholar
Program #20994RJ
11 Days | 10 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Easy
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

A stately paddle wheeler floating slowly on the beautiful Mississippi River, plantations, gorgeous old homes, gourmet food, great New Orleans jazz, and alligators....what more could you want?

High praises for everyone involved in making this a memorable trip! Joyce and Jerry worked well together, and I can't recommend this too highly. Just the right amount of lecture and accompanying activities. Free time in NOVA was just right.

Rochelle from Westwood, MA Number of programs attended: 21
Date attended: 12/07/13 - 12/17/13
This program was excellent! Our week on the American Queen Steamboat was a wonderful, very smooth, experience with beautiful decor, very good food, varied entertainment, and field trips with Road Scholar to plantations and more. We could also attend talks given by the steamboat "riverlorian" and others. Our 3 days in New Orleans offered excellent lectures and coach tours giving overviews of the city including Katrina damage and the rebuilding that is ongoing. Our lecturers were very knowledgeable sharing informative, interesting, and at times humorous, talks. The lagniappe * of this program was Joyce, our group leader. Experienced and very helpful, Joyce went above and beyond what is expected of a group leader. Joyce you are the best!!!!! *lagniappe (lan yap) - a bonus, extra gift

Laurie from Chula Vista, CA Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 06/16/13 - 06/26/13
This was one of the very few - or perhaps only - vacation tour we have taken where everything exceeded our expectations and we enthusiastically enjoyed every stop. The tour guides were excellent, witty and knowledgeable, the historical sites fascinating, and the overall experience was incredible. We highly recommend this program and have become ardent fans of Road Scholars. Laurie, San Diego

Elisabeth from Teaticket, MA Number of programs attended: 8

Ann from South Setauket, NY Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 03/09/13 - 03/19/13
THIS WAS MY FIRST TRIP WITH ROAD SCHOLAR AND WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE. WELL ORGANIZED AND JOYCE AND JERRY WERE OUTSTANDING GUIDE AND LECTURER. I THOUGHT THE PRICE WAS REASONABLE CONSIDERING AIRFARE AND ALL TOURS, GRATUITIES ETC. WERE INCLUDED.

Judy from Seal Beach, CA Number of programs attended: 30
Date attended: 03/09/13 - 03/19/13
This was a very intersting program. Even though it was "easy" in activity we were kept very busy with great tours and activities. The speaker, Jerry Mc Curdie was one of the best as was leader Joyce Hanks. The American Queen is a great way to see the Mississippi River ports. Service and food was very good. The variety of activities in New Orleans was also very good. If you are looking for a vacation of sitting around and doing very little this is NOT for you.
