EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

i am a fairly recent widow, and still adjusting to life without my partner. This trip continued to reinforce that I can still travel and learn, meet new people from all walks of life, and feel safe while doing it!

We found the program a spectacular combination of education, entertainment, and beauty in an area of the country we'd only read about previously. The American Queen is comfortable, the cuisine delicious, and the size small enough that you don't feel like a number. Kudos to our intrepid program leader Joyce and the New Orleans RoadScholar staff who put together an excellent set of speakers and guides. Do go! You'll love it!

Excellent program! One of the best Road Scholar program we've participated in. Our program leader Joyce was exceptional, guiding us through the wonders of New Orleans and the lower Mississippi River with enthusiasm and warmth. Our instructor and guides were excellent, making the history and culture of this fascinating part of our country come to life. The American Queen paddle wheel steamboat was beautiful, with very nice accommodations, excellent food and great service staff and entertainment. We learned so much and had a great time with a wonderful group of fellow Road Scholar travelers. I highly recommend this program!

Easy but not leisurely. A 10-day immersion into another culture was fascinating, informative and fun! I highly recommend this trip.

Just returned from great 10 day trip to New Orleans and took the American Queen up the Mississippi. My first trip with Road Scholar was memorable...great food, great sights, great people! We visited many significant towns, plantations and military sights impacted by the Civil War. And, we learned so much about the life on plantations, slavery, and architecture from that period of time in the south. I highly recommend this program!

This trip was fantastic. We started with an introduction to the rich heritage of New Orleans, including its architecture and the horrific destruction of Katrina and the rebuilding efforts and resiliciency of its people. We continued learning about the history of south LA on the riverboat. The boat is beautifully adorned, the food elegant, and the staff accommodating and delightful. Our leader and experts made this a most enjoyable experience. I would do it again.

Read Mark Twain's "Life on the Mississippi" to encourage you to find out what that life is. Of course, it was written in another age, but will give you background for more history of the area, and if you're a New Yorker like me, you'll add to what you know about our country. New Orleans was fine, the boat is special and the people who are in your group will be friendly.

If you lived your life in the north of our country and have ever wondered what the south was like, try going to New Orleans and taking an authentic paddle boat up the Mississippi. You'll find out some amazing different views of our United States. You may agree with some and disagree with others, but you will be interested!
