Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

This intergenerational program was outstanding to both children and adults. There was an everyday new and exciting adventure. It was well worth the expense. I have been on 15 Road Scholar trips and highly recommend these educational experiences.I was so glad to share this experience and others with my precious grandchildren.

All in one package -the Black Hills, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, the Badlands, and more. A program that grandparents and grandchildren can share and enjoy together.

This was an outstanding experience. We have gone on several Road Scholar tours, but this was our first inter-generational experience. The variety of experiences was excellent. As several other participants have remarked, it was a good time to bond with a grandchild. The leader was very compassionate. Also, several one time leaders were informative.

This is a wonderful program and I truly understand now by its a Most Popular. The South Dakota folks involved should be very proud!

Had a wonderful time on our first Road Scholar adventure! Both kids and Grandparents bonded from the very first day. Nancy was a wonderful guide and both she and our bus driver, "Gentle Gene," made our week very special. Even enjoyed the unscheduled "play stop" when our bus broke down, thanks to a lovely local couple! A good variety of activities and learning, with enough free time for all to enjoy the K Bar S and the local town. Had no idea there was so much to do and see in South Dakota!

Marianne from Glen Mills, PA Number of programs attended: 2

This is an outstanding program that allows grandchildren and grandparents to share a unique experience they will all happily remember for a lifetime. An added bonus is that kids from all over the country become acquainted and share learning and play time together in ways otherwise impossible, enriching all of them for long after the trip.

Yvonne from Poulsbo, WA Number of programs attended: 8

What joy for a grandmother to see her granddaughter soak up history and share it with others. Road Scholar instilled patriotic feelings and gave us an appreciation for the hard work of our forefathers in establishing such a great country.

Bonnie from Gulfport, FL Number of programs attended: 1

This was the most wonderful trip for my husband and I and our two grandsons. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and learned a lot in the process. The leader was excellent; the facilities were great; the mix of activities and listening and observing was just right. The food was just adequate, but didn't impact our enjoyment. Highly recommend this trip!

This is a super program to begin with, and with Donna as our leader, it went over the top!

John Morgan from Alabama Number of programs attended: First Date attended: 07/06/14 - 07/11/14 An experiencial learning event for both adults and youth! Having native South Dakotans, Donna Fisher, Master Teacher Extraordinaire, and Robbie, an explemenary role model for youth and an inspiration for adults, provided significant time for youth and grandparents. Greg, our congenial and hospitable bus driver, went the extra mile to accommodate my special search for pioneer South Dakota family. My grandson & I also enjoyed our time together as well as time with other participants.

Mary Gordon from Austin, TX Number of programs attended: 3

Who knew there were so many fascinating places in South Dakota? Although Mount Rushmore was certainly the highlight, with a leader like Donna Fisher, we discovered so much more! As usual, the Road Scholar participants were smart and delightful people. Having our grandchildren with us made for a marvelous week! MGS (Texas)

I don't often use this word "AWESOME" My 10 year old granddaughter and I enjoyed everything. Donna was terrific - fun, educational and I highly recommend it. Looking forward to trip # 2 next summer.

The last time I visited Mt. Rushmore, I was 15 years old. Having a personal South Dakotan take us around made this trip ten times better.

Virginia from Graham, TX Number of programs attended: 16
Date attended: 07/28/13 - 08/02/13
Fantastic program!! Our grandson loved every activity and we (the grandparents) did, too. Donna was one of the best leaders in our 14 programs. She made it so much fun for the kids! They learned everything about Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse.

Lynne from Philadelphia, PA Number of programs attended: 1

The Mt Rushmore intergenerational trip was our first Road Scholar trip. Road Scholar did an amazing job in scheduling diverse activities that were enjoyed by adults and children alike. What a great way to spend time with your grandchild and learn more about them. What a great way for your grandchild to spend time with and learn more about you. This is a trip that made memories that will last a lifetime for us and our two grandchildren.
